Mother Heroine with both booklet and large certificate?
I have an opportunity to buy Order Mother Heroine (high 300,000's s/n, 1981 issue) that is complete with both the small award booklet and the full-sized award certificate. The seller wants $300 US. Is this reasonable? I can't seem to find much on the web regarding value, and I'm new to this excessively addictive hobby... Thank you for whatever help you might give me! :o

Kirchgoens,
I tend to think that it is in line with the trends these days. In Russia, they tend to sell for more with only the small document. Marc |

I just picked up another mother's set - this one complete from beginning to end except for a small Heroine booklet:
- a Mother Heroine medal with large certificate in binder and a large blue box that this goes into and a very small blue box to hold the medal and a slightly larger blue box that would probably (?) hold the small certificate (cert. missing); - all three Orders of Maternal Glory with booklets; - both Maternity Medals (both with booklets); All come from one Central Asian woman with award dates spanning from about 1965 to 1975. There was also a second booklet for a 1st Class Maternal Glory in the same name, but no medal that had a matching serial number. I'm not quite sure how to explain to 1st Class booklets. The were exactly four months apart in date: 28 Dec 72 and 28 April 73. The Heroine medal's gold star is very tarnished looking (much more than the other Heroine medal I have which is quite bright), but I weighed both on a good digital kitchen scale and they both came in right at 17g for the complete medal. That gives me some confidence I didn't get taken, but maybe I'm naive? I was a bit worried about the brass switches I hear about. I just found a set of Mother Heroine documents (both the large and the small), but with no medal. The large was issued in 1970, and the small was issued as a duplicate" (stamped "Дубликат") in 1983. I picked them up, but I sure wish the medal had been there. My collection overall is small, but I think I'm most done with maternity awards at this point unless I see something too good to pass up. |
