it is sure that curent USD/euros ratio is not favourable for you, it should have been taken into acount in this starting price...but I'm not sure there will be any selling in France...it will go in anywhere else if it goes.

I am just curious - what do you base your opinions on regarding the price of this set? It's all about rarity and comparison to other awards. For example, asking price (in $6000 range) is roughly the price of Suvorov 2nd class. Suvorov 2nd is almost always available for sale (every month or two there's one listed with one of major dealers), while I've never seen Lenin Peace Prize set on the market. Furthermore, emission of Suvorov 2nd cl is in thousands, while this Lenin Peace Prize is much scarce. Plus you have provenance, as the doc is written to a famous person. I'd take this prize set over 2nd Suvorov (just and example) without giving much thought. I agree that asking price isn't cheap, but that's what prices are these days... I'd say prize set is priced fairly... William |

The difference is simple! A Suvorov 2 and 3 is Combat Awards!
No matter how you look at it. I agree that there are less of these prize medals but that is also true about the collectors of these awards. Quote:

As a dealer, it's his purgative to ask whatever he wants for it but will it sell? I'll make a wager with you regarding how long that piece will be for sale on that site! :) I can ask $10,000 for one of my Red Stars (nothing early) because it's an ultra rare variation but do you think I'll get it? I do hope your friend is able to sell it and I'll be happy for him. Rusty. From the Raising Prices thread: Quote:

Rusty,
I made a very slight (and almost insignificant :p ) mistake: the prices I quoted are actually in EUROS, not USD. So, in effect, the figures are: Winning Bid: 4100 Euros ($5275) Commission: 833.53 Euros ($1072) Total Cost: 4933.53 Euros ($6347) Expensive, but certainly rare!!! Marc |

Same piece, now in Germany!
"Medallion to the international Lenin peace prize, gold, in decorated silver gilt Tragespange with tape and needle, in the leather case with velvet insert. The large-size rental document in briefcase with the head picture W.I.Lenin, lent to the French painter Jean Effel on the 27th April, 1968. The international Lenin peace prize was lent only 10 times yearly and, hence, extremely seldom! Of our knowledge first in a German auction."
Starting price : EUR 15'000.- |

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the set you mention is just that Lenin Prize with the Doc posted before on this thread?!... 15.000.00 EUROS for it?!... I wonder who could possibly pay all that money for just (after all) one Medal with a Doc!... Amazing!...   Dolf |

hello Bryan, yes, altough my ;), it is quite a frightening price...it is well the Jean Eiffel set (great diploma and folder, medal and box). But can anyone remember how many sets have you ever seen on the market since 1992?
