Re: Parachute badges

No, all of these are of the "1968 type", just different grades based on a jumper's experience and number of jumps. The type just prior to '68 didn't have hangars. The basic badge is the one with a round parachute and nothing written on it. The next higher grade is the "Expert Parachutist" with the appropriate Cyrillic text. Then the "Parachute Instructor" was the highest grade.

These hangars are approximate - the actual number hangars were often difficult to find so the recipient usually stayed with the number of the hangar as it was produced.

Re: Parachute badges

Thanks Paul my memory betrayed me.

Here is a picture with the years.

No hanger, or to rings fixed at the side of the badge are 1955 to 1968.
Badges with loops at the bottom are from 1968 to 1991.

regards
Andreas

Re: Parachute badges

I have a similar one and it is original, however not from the 1930's.

I believe it was either a DOSAAF reissue or something from a later time period - I'm only guessing, but maybe the 60's or 70's. Maybe someone has more authoritative information?

Re: Parachute badges

It's certainly got that 70s braluminum vibe to it doesn't it, right down to the screwplate.

Re: Parachute badges

What are your comments or opinions on this please?
I've seen these a lot recently on eBay.
This one seems to have some wear to it.
What era as well please?
TIA
