Esteban,

11 republics were used until 1947. You cap is definitely not from that period.

caps

esteban,

the caps seem fine, i would not worry. I have had in caps from the 1950's that still had the M1940 side buttons. The Soviets liked to overproduce and used the buttons until they ran out. Though your hats would be the latest I have seen these buttons, I would not lose sleep over them.

Wasn't there this tradition in the Soviet Armed FOrces in which buttons were passed down from older officers to younger ones?

Passing down buttons is interesting

I've given away epaulets and rank devices to junior officers who were promoted under me so that, by the time I retired, all I had left in the insignia box are my original "butter bars" and the most recent eagles.

Guys,

I have never heard about sometihing similar in the Soviet Union; it might be an American type of tradition.
I know that sometimes, different generations would use, say, grandpa's WW2 belt for instance, but that's all.

I have some pals who are retired US Armed forces and sometimes they would do this and sometimes not. I am sure there is some tradition in the US for this sort of deal but it does not happen all the time. Like Jeff indicated - a nice way to move on some of the old ranks and make room for the new stuff!

Yes, it is not an error or fake. It's real example of such overproducing.

Rather good caps!
