Re: Lieutenant-Colonel Mihail Aleksandrovich Tolkachev
The recommendation for his first OPW 1 (that started out as a Red Star, turned into a Kutozov 3 -- which seems deserved -- and then bacem the OPW 1).

The second OPW 1 (which stayed that way throughout the process):

Re: Lieutenant-Colonel Mihail Aleksandrovich Tolkachev
Medals73,
This another wonderful and extensive group tracing back to Dave S. As you probably bought directly from him, you must know that Tolkachev appears in Dave's book "No Deed Forgotten" with his picture on the cover, his biography (pp.20-21), and citation for Red Banner (p.91). I am surprised you seem to have got translations of the Podvig Naroda citations and not the uncensored Podolsk photocopies. Seems the group had already been fully researched back in 2005. Re: Lieutenant-Colonel Mihail Aleksandrovich Tolkachev
Too bad he didn't pass the research he had on Tolkachev... probably got lost/mixed among his pile of other research papers. At least you got all the personal photos and other documents of that group!
You've got a very interesting group and with lot of information to be able to research it even more. I just googled a bit and it seems I was able to find additional information about Tolkachev. Not sure 100% it's the same man, but if you have his exact birthdate you could confirm. Born on 21 November 1918, Died on 14 October 2001. Is buried in Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia. [See burial tombstone] On another website, we could read that he had a (internal) passport issued to him on 24 March 1976, listing same birthdate and birth place: village/town of Zalazna, Omutninsky Region, Kirov Oblast, and with his place of living: City of Yekaterinburg, 4 Voevodina street, apartment # 134.
