It's commonly called a Stalin's Shockworker Labor Badge, or some variation of that. There are several varieties. I have a number at home that need to be sorted out later this year. One large site offers two varieties for sale at widely divergent prices, presumably only because one variety pre-dates the other. I have never been clear on exactly what one did to earn this badge. Someone once corrected me when I offered that it must be railway-related. He could have been right, too, since I couldn't back up my opinion. It was awarded for about twenty years beginning in the mid-1930s and you can find it in most of the general reference books.

Danny,

The badge is perfectly genuine, though I am not sure about the enamel.

It is not railway related. I believe that the locomotive illustrates Lenin's words about revolutions been locomotives of history (correct me if I am wrong). This badge was produced in huge numbers, and is fairly cheap. Considering the condition I'd say $10 is a fair price.

Thanks Alexei. It sold for about that, but I had passed on it because of the enamel. Want to buy a fairly reasonable one.

Danny,

They are commonly available in better condition, so you should have no problem finding one.

Here is another example being auctionned off. The enamel isn't the same colour as in post #1. Does this one look authentic?

And another one for the experts to elaborate... :)

Which one(s) is/are real or fake(s) from those posted here?
They all look different! Could it be a question of period? Manufacturing quality? Different variations? Or they simply got old differently?!

Thanks,

Dolf

It seems there would have been at least two variations of this badge, one in the 1930's and another in the 1940-1950's.

Ruiz,

Both of them look original. The earlier, numbered one is quite nice, especially with its original counterplate.
