Eddie,
There is no doubt that the flag changed, by official decree, in 1946. What I am saying is that nothing was actually changed until 1947 - the new general's buttons did not come out till 1947, new badges, etc. People often forget the delay in producing and issuing stuff after the change date. Shawn |

Shawn,
Yes no doubt about it, it must have been a logistical nightmare! Is this a variation of the USSR PCMC badge in Freds post? Eddie.

Quick questions:
1. Are these M35 officer cap stars? 2. When did the transition from 2-piece stars to 1-piece stars occur? 3. What is a fair price for one of these 2-piece stars? Thanks in advance. |

cap badges
1. the cap bagdes seem to me to be 1930's. Nice, heavy, 2 part.
2. the switch to the one part badges seems to have actually taken place during the war, so its common to see identical hats, but with the different cap badges. 3. value is tough; maybe $40? I might be high in my estimate, but good quality wartime items are so tough to find. doug |

But despite official adaptation only in 1946 new state seal was in use even in 1940. This is a picture of November 7 1940 parade. As you can see state seal already had 16 republics ribbons on it. Quote:

I went and measured by cap badges and they are indeed 36 mm across.
Just for clarification, what "winter cloth helmet" are we talking about--the "budenny" or "shlem" hat? Or are we talking about the ushanka (which I realize is more fur than cloth)? Thanks as always. |

Model (pattern) of 1936
1 - 38MM - Senior Officers 2 - 34MM - Officers & EM 3 - 24MM - for the Pilotka; all ranks However, I have seen original photographs of all three of these mixed & matched and in use on all different types of cloth headgear of the period. So, I assume that placement of the word "intended" before the three classifications would be more befitting.
