I agree, I think one of the DDRs lieders had an OGPW 1st, that was given to him as a present, but wasn't that an exception rather than a rule?

It was all a matter of "who you knew"... The groups I have with the OGPW that were non combat related were LtColonels or Colonels in staff positions! Also, about 90% of foreign awards to senior officers were OGPW's.

I didn't know that, thanks! I was under the impression that OGPWs were almost exclusively combat awards.

This question is probably for a different thread, but could you give some examples of non-combat OGPWs.

Already all over it! :) Unfortunately, the majority of my staff officer groups are missing one or two citations - most of the time for the OGPW! :mad: I know I've got a few somewhere in my archives though. I'll post 'em when I find them!
