Re: Polish Award Groups!

That's not the problem. In 1945-1989 period they put a great effort in ordering the pre-war archives, and at that time, the 2nd Republic was officially unpopular period. Not sure why they left later files in such a mess, but now the problem is lack of money which means lack of personnel to do the job. Currently the only polish archive with no financial problems is that of the IPN, where most of the surviving 1945-1989 files of the Ministery of Interior are stored, but those are not open to the public.

I belive that the Ribbon bar is most likely the full list of awards he realy got.
What a weird guy...

His story I got from documents:
Born on 26 June 1920 or 1922 (the dates are altered in most of the documents!) in Babczów near Radom
in 1930's joined the ZHP (Largest polish scouting association)
Unknown activity in September 1939 (could have been drafted to the armed forces ar could serve in the "auxilary service" as a boy scout)
Activity from 1939 to December 1942 still unknown (hope to learn that), but probably in resistance (see below)
From 21 December 1941 to 9 January 1943 in Nazi Prison
From 9.01.43 to 29 june 1943 in Nazi Penitentiary camp
From 1 September 1939 to 17 January 1945 in the Resistance
He possibly escaped from that camp, but this is just a speculation.
The underground organisation he served in was "Szare Szeregi" (Gray Ranks - a part of AK based on pre-war scouting movement, the name comes from the fact that polish scouts wore gray uniforms). He used pseudonyms "Jan Skałacz" and "Józef Winięwas"

In 1945 he started to work in unknown place and have joined some trade union on 1.03.1945 (seems that for some time he worked with PSS Społem - A food shops company)
He also joined ZUWZoWiN Veteran Association on 1.10.1945 (member until 1946)
on 1.09.1949 he joined ZBoWiD Veteran Association
on 6.03.1956 he started his job as a "senior economist" In Acumulator Factory in Bielawa, where he worked until 1961 (most likely until May). In the meantime, he became Chief of organsation and personnel issues in that Factory.
on 6.03.1956 he joined Metal Industry Workers Trade Union
In 1961 he joined the Militia (SB, it seems), where he worked probably until 1981 when he left because of unspecified health problems connected to his work as a militiaman.
Later he was a scouting movement activist and Journalist. He was also a painter through all his life.
in the Years 1958-162 he was a member of the city council in Bielawa. He was also a candidate to the regional council in the last decade, but I don't know how succesful he was
In the 1990's he joined the SLD left-wing party. in 1995 he was invited to the Official Oath taking ceremony of the President of Poland Aleksander Kwaśniewski.
He had militia rank of Captain, Scouting movement rank of Harcmistrz ("Scouting master" - highest rank)

An unexpected discovery

concerning Jerzy Długoszowski, partisan and militiaman (http://soviet-awards.com/forum/sovie...tml#post136389)

I was prepearing to sell it, when I, browsing all****.pl came across a piece of his legacy. A piece that solves 2 mysteries about him - his (up to now doubtful) relation to pre-war general Bolesław Wieniawa-Długoszowski and why he had a Warsaw Upraising Cross even tough he didn't take part in the Uprising.
So, what I found (and bought) was an award booklet from 1984 - of Warsaw Uprising Cross given posthumously to Andrzej Długoszowski - a Warsaw insurgent who died during the uprising togeather with his brother Marek (both members of the Gray Ranks and both nephews of gen. Wieniawa-Długoszowski). That booklet had a special marking - under the signature of State Council President, there's his name hand-written. Undoubtedly written by Jerzy Długoszowski. It seems that in 1984 he was the closest living relative of the fallen insurgents - that explains why he wears double bar for the Warsaw Up. Cross on some photographs. Also the booklet has the sending address information - was probably send by the post.
It seems that Marek's and Andrzej's Father (also Jerzy) was gen. Wieniawa-Długoszowski's cousin. And he had a brother - Stefan, who was a teacher and father of kpt. Jerzy Długoszowski - "my" militiaman.

Up to now, I thought it was all just his imagination...

Jerzy Długoszowski

A repost of a large group.

A group to Jerzy Długoszewski, son of Stefan, a scouting movement activist, an AK partisan and a post-war militia officer.

A short view on his Life:
Born in 1922 in Babczew, Łódź Voievodeship as a son of a village teacher. Joined the Polish Scouting Association (ZHP) probably in 1932. Bofore the war he finished 4 classes of a secondary school in Częstochowa.
After the september 1939 he worked physically in the local area. In 1941 he was forced by the nazis to work at the local foundry. In 1942 he was arrested (charged of sabotage, he was unclear in his CV as to wether he was the saboteur or not) and imprisoned later sent to the correctional camps from which he was released in 1943 (possibly due to poor health condition, but that's unclear). After recovering from heavy ilness he joined the "Szare Szeregi" (Grey Ranks - a Scouting movement-based organization, part of the AK; Probably he was taken after his cousins vouched for him, this will be discussed later on), finished an NCO course and was promoted to corporal. After that his task was to train new recruits. Additionaly in 1944 he joined "Combat Emergency of the Socialists" (I haven't found info on that organization - possibly a small organization created by one of the many factions of the Polish Socialist Party - PPS), where he worked as a liason and underground press distribuer.
After the liberation he worked in the aprovization ministry and during carrying his duty as a commandant of a group organizing supplies (mainly food from farmers) he fell victim to an assault by "the bandits" (likely the anti-communist partisans).
Married in 1946
He worked in the industry and commerce until 1961 when he joined the MO (he was almost 40 at that time, but all of the state security organizations were eager to have former partisans in their ranks)
After the war he finished the high scool and started Law studies which he stopped because of the lack of time. He later made various courses.
in 1961 he joined the MO and was sent to the course for Political officers.
He was sent on the pension in late 70's or early 80's due to health problems related to his service in the Militia.
HE later joined th Voluntary Reserves of the Citizens' Militia (ORMO).
He was also active in other fields - he was a PZPR member where he held a few posts in local structures; a member of the ZBOWiD veteran association (he was a head of the local organization and a member of the Voivodeship executive), member of a city council etc.
After 1989 he joined the left wing SLD party and was invited as a honorary guest to Aleksander Kwaśniewski's Presidential Oath Taking Ceremony.
He was also a honorary member of the Socialist Youth organization, Honorary Blood Donors Association, Committe for building the Schools-Monuments (for the Poland's Millenium), a journalist, painter, writer and God only knows who else.
He died in 2010

Pic1: The group
Pic2: a wooden case (home-made by Długoszowski himself) - a bit problematic - some awards missing, some are here even tough they shouldn't. The awards are:
- 1st row: Polonia Restituta Cavalier's Cross, Gold Cross of Merit, Partisan Cross, For merits to the defense of the state bronze medal, Gold Janek Krasicki Cross (a socialist youth award)
- 2nd row: Polish red Cross Gold Badge, For merits to ZSMP (Socialist Youth association), Polish Red Cross Silver Badge, For merits to the defense of the state silver medal
- 3rd row: Victory and Freedom Medal, In Service to The nation - 20years of service (silver), 40 years of the PRP, For merits in defense of the Public order bronze badge
- 4th row: Warsaw Uprising Cross (Not his, but this awardis explained later on), For Odra, Nysa, Baltic medal (apparently not his - presence unexplained, but since the man was a bit crazy he probably bought it as a space filler), For merits in defense of the public order silver badge, Auschwitz Cross (unlikely to be his, but it's presence is unexplained - Długoszowski was in nazi prisons and correctional camps but not the concentration camps, so he probably was not entitled to get one)

3rd pic:
Various insignia: MO cpt. cap band and eagle, remains of MO officer parade uniform collar tab ("palm branch"), Training uniform shoulder insignia (hard to notice on this pic, but the "moro" pattern is actually blue instead of army's dark grey, which indicates MO uniform), PR and PC minis, Ribbon bars - frrom various times, more or less complete. Note the wound badge fro 2 wounds.

1st pic:photographs of him from varios periods - in MO officer uniform, in scouting movement uniform etc., also a photocopy of his first MO ID.

2nd pic: 2 award booklets: for the Polonia Restituta CC and For the Silver Badge for Merits in defense of the public order.

3rd pic: 2 award booklets: Bronze badge for merits in defense of the public order, bronze medal for merits to the defense of the state.

Note: Some of the papers here were attacked by some fungi - the group suffered during the flood. The docs have been dried and neutralized, but the discoloration remains.

1st pic: two empty award booklet covers - one of them was apparently to for the "Meritous to the Health of the NAtion" honorary title badge; his service pistol ID (p-64 9.2x18mm pistol - according to the law, he was suppoosed to leave it at the MO station with the gun when ending his MO service. I wander if he kept the gun itself?)

2nd pic: MO pensioner ID and Metal Industry Workers Trade Union membership booklet.

Re: Jerzy Długoszowski

His CV from the time he applied for work in the MO (with later inserts)

Various award boxes (the green one is for the missing "For merits to the ZHP" medal, the small one - for the missing "Meritous to the health of the nation" honorary title badge).

There's a lot of other papers in this group.

Unfortunately, contrary to what the seller promised me, lots of the stuff was sold away (he admitted only selling his uniforms), as the next post will show.
