rank

i think that the white tunic for the admiral of the fleet of the ussar did have embroidery on the collar.

anyway, this rank did not exist...after three star rank of "admiral" the next rank of "admiral of the fleet" would be one big star (see pics of Chernavin).

avoid this seller; its all unissued parts and bits thrown together, and now it looks like repro boards being made, still using original materials.

Didn't "Admiral of the Fleet" use four stars on the shoulderboards during WWII (but they were not called "Four Star Admirals")

4 star

yes, both Isakov and Kuznetsov had 4 stars; admiral was 3 stars, they were admirals of the fleet; kuznetsov got new insignia for admiral of the fleet in 1944.

awards

I know of most: HSU in 1945, 6 orders of lenin, 3 red banners, red star, US Legion of Honor ( or is that merit?)

Doug,

Very beautiful uniform !
I don't know if you are already aware of it, but on the site of a well-known dealer in the US, you can buy an autographed doc of him :

"Yumashev, Admiral of the Fleet of USSR, Supreme Navy Commander. Typed document signed “Yumashev” on stationary of the Soviet Navy Supreme Commander, addressed to Marshal Bulganin, Minister of Defense, dated 1948. Marked “secret” and numbered “specimen #1” in the upper right corner. Excellent condition.
The letter is requesting a promotion for a political officer and gives him a favorable service evaluation. Ymashev’s signature is on the second page, in black ink next to his title “Supreme commander of the Naval Forces”. Also signed by commander of the Political Department of the Navy, Coastal Defense Maj. Gen. Murav’ev (in blue ink, lower signature). Ivan Yumashev commanded Soviet Pacific Fleet in 1939-1945. He was promoted to supreme commander of the Soviet Navy in 1947 and held this position until 1950.
$50.00 ."

Just FYI. If you need the link, just PM me.

Cheers.

Ch.

Doug,

That's the US Legion of Merit. I looked through my references and couldn't find his award to see the level of it. It must have been a Navy Department (vice War Department or Military Mission to Moscow) award, which doesn't have references yet.

the book will be coming out in about one year via Schiffer Publishing...it will cover M1943 and M1945 parade uniforms of Soviet Generals / Admirals/ Marshals. We are working hard on it now.
