Re: Researched awards game

It's good to see so many people are interested!

Nr. 4

Quote:
Comrade XXX participates in the Patriotic War since June 1941. Since the first days of combat with the German invaders, he held a series of command positions: from June to October 1941 as commander of the 20th Tank Division and later commander of the 4th Tank Brigade.

Commanding the 4th Tank Brigade near the city of Oryol, he defeated the group of General Guderian, for which the 4th Tank Brigade by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet was renamed to 1st Guards Tank Brigade, and comrade XXX was awarded the Order of Lenin.

In October 1941, the 1st Guards Tank Brigade under command of comrade XXX participated in the destruction of the Germans near Moscow. From November 1941 to April 1942 comrade XXX commanded the operational group of forces of the Southwestern Front, where units under command of comrade XXX destroyed the German 44th, 98th, and 99th Infantry Divisions.

Comrade XXX and his 3rd Mechanized Corps got subordinated to the Kalinin Front in October 1942. From 25 November to 31 December 1942, units of the 3rd Mechanized Corps under command of comrade XXX were continuously in combat and inflicted heavy losses upon the enemy.

Destroyed or partially destroyed were the 12th Tank Division, SS Division Grossdeutschland, the 86th and 95th Infantry Divisions, the 632nd Sapper Battalion and other reinforcements. During these battles, up to 13,000 soldiers and officers were killed and up to 150 tanks, 200 guns, and 450 machine guns were destroyed or put out of action. Up to 350 bunkers and 9 depots with various kinds of equipment and ammunition were destroyed.

In tough combat with significantly superior enemy forces, the corps under command of comrade XXX carried out the missions assigned by the military council and maintained its combat readiness.

For the well-organized management in a difficult combat situation with a superior enemy in a decisive sector and for the defeat of the enemy, achieved by good coordination, comrade XXX deserves to be awarded the Order of Kutuzov 2nd Class.

Re: Researched awards game

Count me out - I know (or at least I think I do) all four so far. Besides it would not be fair since I read Russian and can always double check the information on the Russian Internet or in my books.

.... ehhhhh, what prize are we talking about? Just kidding, of course.

Re: Researched awards game

Nr. 5

Quote:
He participated in combat with the German-Fascist occupants during the defense of France and continued to do so with the embattled French troops in Northern Africa and in the USSR. In aerial combat in Africa, he shot down an enemy plane, for which he was awarded the Libya Medal.

Since 22 March 1943 he is at the front of battle with the German-Fascist invaders in the USSR. During this period, he carried out 47 combat flights: 14 escorting ground assault aircraft and bombers, 28 searching freely and in pursuit of enemy aircraft, and 5 alarm flights. In aerial combat he personally shot down 2 enemy aircraft: 1 Fw-190 and 1 Me-110. Furthermore, he shot down three enemy aircraft in group combat: 1 Fw-190, 1 Fw-189 and 1 Ju-88.

He is a good pilot. Audaciously he fights to tie the enemy to an aerial battle. His example inspires young pilots of the Normandie squadron to destroy the German-Fascist invaders as fast as possible.

For merit in combat and the hereby displayed courage and bravery, Lieutenant XXX deserves to be awarded the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class.
Later upgraded to an OPW 1st Class.

Re: Researched awards game

Alexei, I think you are not the only one who speaks Russian. And not everybody may have the means to check their guesses, but even when you can, you first have to find a possible answer. Plus, I think most people knew these five easy ones. In the next five, there may even be a challenge for you.

Nr. 6

Quote:
Guards Major General of Aviation comrade XXX, the commander of the air forces of the Moscow Military District, achieved good results in training the units of the district and making them ready for combat.

As the commander of the aerial parade on 1 May 1948, comrade XXX organized the parade units well and prepared the flying and technical personnel excellently. During the parade’s preparatory period, 3,961 landings with a total flight time of 2,785 hours were carried out, including 1,168 landings with a total flight time of 508 hours in jet aircraft, without any incidents.

On May Day, General XXX commanded the aerial parade, being located aboard the leading plane. He assured the flypast of 284 planes over Red Square, exactly at the appointed time and with strict adherence to the formation.

Nr. 9

Quote:
During his period of service in a submachine gun company of the 2nd Independent Rifle Battalion, 91st Independent Rifle Brigade, since February 1943 he showed himself a true-harted, dedicated son of the motherland, politically competent and decisive.

During the period of combat with the German invaders near the village of Chernushki, Kalinin oblast, he displayed a heroic feat during the company’s attack on the fortified enemy sector (bunkers). Private XXX, making his way to a bunker, closed off the firing opening with his body, making it possible to take the enemy defense point.

The heroic feat of Private XXX is deserving of the title “Hero of the Soviet Union” posthumously.

Re: Researched awards game

And the last one. Not much to go on, but you all definitely know the recipient.

Good luck in finding the ten recipients. You can e-mail me your ten answers until the 17th, 20:00 GMT.

Nr. 10

Quote:
Comrade XXX participates in combat against the German-fascist invaders since the first days of the Great Patriotic War. Repeatedly participating in combat operations with the Southern, Northern Caucasus, and others fronts, he showed himself a brave, courageous, and valiant soldier, for which he was awarded an Order of the Red Star and an Order of the Red Banner.

Many times he was with the units that were located at Myskhako, and also near Novorossiysk, subordinated to the 318th Rifle Division and other army units. Personally participating in combat, he capably led and rendered practical assistance to the political body and the party-political apparatus of the army’s units in guaranteeing the fulfilment of the command’s combat orders. Under heavy artillery and mortar fire and bombardment by enemy aircraft, he inspired the personnel by his example of courage to conduct heroic deeds.

While training for the combat operation to liberate the city of Novorossiysk, he took very actively part in the development of the operational plans and personally organized the actions of all political bodies and the army’s party organization. On the days of the landing, 9, 10, and 11 September of that year, he was with the units all the time, checking and heading the landing, and rendered great assistance to the command in effectuating an offensive spirit within the personnel of the army.

During the landing and its combat actions, he often went to the units and detachments that were engaged in fierce street combat in the city of Novorossiysk and personally led the political bodies, rendering great assistance to the command in the political support during combat, hereby displaying exceptional bravery and courage.

He was able to correctly aim the activities of the political section of the army, the political sections of the subordinated formations, and all party organizations of the army for the successful carrying out of the landing operation, as a result of which during the period of combat the party-political activities were conducted at the right level.

For the excellent fulfilment of the command’s combat missions at the front of battle with the German occupants and the hereby displayed bravery, courage, and valor, comrade XXX deserves the Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class.
