Marc,

Apparently the center medallions of the 1st and 2nd classes are silver. The outer star of the 1st is gilted and the 2nd class silver gilt.

It seems at some stage they were changed to a double prong devise as seen on other Orders, still very crude though.

I believe that's one of the very few numbered orders of Che.

Here's a picture of the General. You can see the order of Che right under the Mongolian Red Banner. Also notice a collection of Umalatova awards.

Is there any documentation with that? As with forged Soviet awards, what's to keep someone from taking a run-of-the-milll Cuban order and engraving "N 1" on it?

I remember the manufacturing of cuban awards was discussed two or three years ago. Our good Eddie (Taz) made some inquiries and discovered they (at least some of them) were made in East Germany.

I will answer for Marc if you don't mind. General Gribkov's awards have been photographed and published in the Almanac Nagrada by Pavlikov. Several of his award documents were also published there, but not for the order of Che.
