Re: Red Star Hat / Lapel Pin ?
It is very likely RT was using stock footage.

Re: Red Star Hat / Lapel Pin ?
The footage was new, no earlier than about 2005, even if it was stock. Plus they mentioned how some army units were using the old insignias.
I tried finding the report, but with no luck, since RT dishes out many per day and they like naming them in "funny" ways. If anyone wants to, though, try in their youtube channel. |

Re: Red Star Hat / Lapel Pin ?
I'd be shocked if real RF troops were wearing the H&S at any time while on duty.
But back to the point: aluminium and paint cap stars, be they "flashy" or not must numbers in the tens or hundreds or even thousands of millions. Those with real enamel many times less. And then the two-piece stars many times less than that.

Re: Red Star Hat / Lapel Pin ?
The represented star is original postwar item used before 1963.

Re: Red Star Hat / Lapel Pin ?
On the point of the continued use of the Hammer and Sickle. Here is a snap of "Captain Hlebnikov" in the Arctic Circle in 2007. In 16 years it will have had many a fresh coat of paint.

Re: Red Star Hat / Lapel Pin ?
Hashspy, could you post photos of both your old and and new stars for comparison? I'm interested in noting the differences visually.

Re: Red Star Hat / Lapel Pin ?
Here you go, I should have done this a few days ago but I was busy. Not the greatest scan, but you can clearly note the difference in material.
