Alexei,
With pleasure. Here is a translation.

The Unknown piece
Who can say anything more about this, up till now unknown early Soviet award? The decoration is made of Silver. The reverse is numbered.

Eddie.

Interestingly enough, does anyone know where this picture in black & white is originating ?
Dr Attila Pandula (1997 ?) and John Clarke (2001) have obviously the same source.
Has this pic been published in a book that one of us could identify ? Or anywhere else ?
Maybe this could solve the question... :confused:

Thanks in advance.

Red Star 1918-22

Hello,

I wrote an e-mail to Combrig in Moscow and ask about the picture. Here is the answer:

"Dear Andreas!
That is 1960-80 badge, dedicated to !!! Russian Civil War 1918-1922
May be for veterans.
I know well all Civil War awards. We'll try to display soon at our web-sites.
......."

Hi Molder,

Thanks. In this precise case, "Combrig" is a business company someway linked to the Russian Military Historical Society. They help with Russian visas, hotel reservations, assistance, historical military museums and collector stock exchange visiting.

Andreas,

Thanks for the information! "1960-80" is not a very precise dating, so I guess they don't know exactly what it is either. But at least it's probably not a fantasy piece. I stand corrected.

This is the answer I got from the BDOS :

"(...) I didn't find an answer in our magazin. The problem is, that our magazin OMM ended with number 90. The following numbers were published from Werner Sauer an I don't have these.
It will be the best if you send a letter to Mr. Pandula. His adress is Mr. Attila Pandula, (...) Budapest.(...)."

Since June 1999 the BDOS publish his own magazin "Orden und Ehrenzeichen". In the following time Mr. Sauer published some issues of the OMM for interested collectors, and the publishing of OMM ended in 2002.

So I will investigate in both directions :
* Mr Werner Sauer, and
* Mr Attila Pandula.

I'll keep you informed.

I'm tending to think that this is a jubilee award, quite possibly issued during the big 50th Anniversary of the Revolution activities in the 1960's. I have had several jubilee awards from this time period and they are very nicely made, and some are serial numbered on the reverse.
