Funny what you get in grab bags at office parties.
The black backing is a styrofoam (they come in different thickness) with paper backing. You can find it as an "art store". In this size, 10 stars per board is nice for handling. You can then put them into a shadow box if you want. |

I have a request in for research on the very first one. 42.342
I will be sure to let the forum know what is found. This is my last group Just three stars but it also includes a North Korean star, Yugoslavian 3rd Class Partisan star and 3 GPW's. 1st one is a second class from the 40's. The other two are 1985 issues. Last edited by jefflgarrison; 12-14-2006 at 11:48 AM. |

Maybe that's just me, but aren't you afraid that the chemicals in the Styrofoam will make oxidation faster on the reverse of your Red Stars. So to speak this is on a long term, but you might observe few changes if you let them on this 1 or 2 years. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm always careful with those things.

There is a paper barrier between the two. This is more of a temporary thing until I can come up with a final solution.
My desire is to create a larger shadow box with a black velvet tray with a depressed place for each star to rest with the back screwed on and a number below the star. The depressed area would be the size of the screwback with a hole for the extending screwpost. I can visualize it but not make it reality just yet. If and when I do and I am pleased enough with the result, I will be sure to post photos. Quote:
Um, is that what that thing is?:D Yes, looked pretty cool when I saw it on eB?y. Was outbid but the guy had two so he gave me a second chance offer at my bid price. Pretty heavy duty screwback. Heavier than a ORS. Have my eye on a Yugoslavian Partisan 2nd class (Soviet's passion) but with Christmas coming up, I have to think of the little wife and 3 kids instead of myself. Hopefully the guy can hold off until January and I can acquire it then. Riley, I have added a photo of the front and back of the lowest number I have. I was pretty please to get it after receiving it by mail and seeing how good condition it is still in given it's number (42.342). ok, so 3.840.622 is the highest numbered Red Star, do you know the highest number AWARDED to an individual? btw, kudos on your website. Very informative. Funny translation when I ran it through a Russian->English translation site I found online. Would like to know more about "Adele Litvinenko" and her 3 medals. Do you have any of them or are they still with her? I am assuming she is still alive being she would be around 80 by now. |

I have the information that 3851918 was awarded posthumously for Afganistan by the decree from July 1989 (orderbook issued in 2005). However, I don't have the images of this Red Star.
The Red Star 3839782 was issued in June 1990 to a firefighter officer.
