Unless they enlist Interpol into the game, as has been done before.

To me it´s both a shame and painful that once again we chileans become known for such actions like this. And unfortunately they´re not a minority inside our nation.
Always the same thing.

Are the laws regarding the export of Soviet awards "ex post facto (retrospective) laws"? If so, then any foreigner that has been awarded, or even a Soviet national that has been awarded and brought it out of the country during Soviet times has commited a crime... If the law is not ex post facto, and also applies to the medals of their own country, be it Ukraine, Belarus, or Russia, etc. Any foreigner that has been awarded a medal has commited a crime...

I do not think it is prohibited for the person who has legally been awarded to bring the decoration to whereever he wants. The "target" with the law is not to catch veterans who move abroad and bring their awards with them - the purpose is to catch those who, just for fun (more or less, hobby or profit) bring awards out. Sometimes in quantities of grocery bags, sometimes just as two jubilee awards.

Could you imagine going to prison for seven years for trying to take a "jubilee award" out of the country? Especially if it was a recent award. Ouch!

I don't think they care about jubilee medals. They sell these in the open at tourist fairs in Russia and the police don't seem to care.
But numbered awards seem to be a bit dangerous to take home after the vacation. I was at a market in Russia when the seller I bought a badge of asked me to come behind the table. he opened a small bag and showed me a Patriotic war 2nd cl T3 and a Labor Glory. It is illegal and not worth it so I did not buy them and I could see that he knew this too. /Erik |

When they sell them to tourists in markets made for tourists I think that it is without saying that they will be taken over the borders. I'm not saying that it is illegal to sell them, just that the law will be broken very
soon after they are sold. It must become very tiresome to hunt tourists with jubilee medals in their bags at the airport. /Erik |
