Miners Badges 2nd & 3rd Class
Two nice looking Miners Badges. I,ve seen these 2nd & 3rd Class Badges quite often recently but not in the 1st Class.
Are they seldom seen or common? Eddie

It's tough to find any real documentation on their status - oh, it's "findable" but they don't show up in most standard Russian language books on medals and other awards. For that matter, in fifteen years, I've only seen them being worn in photos only once or twice. JHB |

Eddie,
Nice complete set of Miners awards! It appears to be a confusion when we refer to these as Miner's Glory orders. Well, they aren't really orders - these are badges, as astated in the accompanied documents. William |

Do you think they are real trial samples?
I saw the same set few times listed on eBay. Eric |

I have no idea. Could be one of those "ebay legends", a fake, or the real thing.

Here's the little information I have:
Established in the 1970s (?) by Ministry of Energy, and has three classes (Ukrainian variation also has fourth class, which was established later and given for five years of work), the first been the highest. Was awarded for 10, 15, and 20 years of work in the mines). Recipients were entitled to monetary rewards. Russian variation was also given to other republics. Since it was not a State award information is scarce. Will try to find out something and post it here. A famous Russian singer Iosif Kabzon, pictured here wearing two Badges "Miner's Glory". |

Picked up this set down town....don't see them often, I think this is a full set of Russian awards.
I have tasked my GF to look at the link and the summary was this. In a nutshell he is a professor who made geographical maps on the study of where to find coal. He was awarded these medals after 22 years good work. You had to earn them by the sounds of it. Chris |

Hello,
I have heard from my Dad that his uncle who worked in Donbas, is/was a Cavalier of Miner's Glory, which was equivalent to a Cavalier of Order of Glory (military), which in turn is equivalent to Hero of Soviet Union (or Socialist Labor, I guess). I am not sure about the breakdown of the "equivalences" but it sounds interesting. Obviously the Cavaliers were entitled to various benefits such as better apartments, allowed to shop in special government produce stores, travel at reduced or no cost, etc. Thanks, Eric |

Hello again,
I agree that the cavalier of Miner's Glory is probably not as highly regarded as HSU/HSL or Cavalier of Glory, but I did hear (second-hand) that there were indeed some privileges associated with being awarded this award. Also, for the ones who were wondering what the orders look like from reverse, I will attach photos of my set. Thank you, Eric |
