Stalin Prize Medal, 3rd class, with a document, 1953 issue. Auction in Munich, posted on e-side AS-IS sale : Conditions of Sale
The following is an abridged translation of the German version, which alone has legal force. All bidders agree to the conditions of sale as stated below:
1.XXXXXXXXXX acts as commissioner for unnamed consignors. All business is conducted in Euro currency.
2.All lots may be examined on our premises and cannot be sent to prospective bidders for purposes of their inspection. All lots are sold 'as is', with all faults, imperfections and errors of description. Prospective buyers submitting written 'order bids', may file complaints within 6 weeks after sale, however, this in no way entitles them to delay final payment. Catalogue descriptions are made as conscientiously as possible, nevertheless, no statement shall be deemed as a warranty.
Looks very good on picture, low starting price ( even with 20% comissions ). Anybody lives in Munich? Could be a good deal ! Good luck !

Yeah it is much cheaper than the one that "a well known dealer from New jersey" (I'm tired to use this form) ;)

It is also more complete. I have lived 3 years ago in Munich, but I wasn't collecting at that time, so I don't know this dealer, but he does look very professional. The Stalin Prize does look good on picture.

I saw it, looked good to me.

He was a Chief (engineer?) for construction of a mine in Donbass. The last picture is too small and I can't quite make out what exactly it was awarded for.

Great thread, fascinating reading...

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but is it possible to find out the corresponding medal numbers for people who received the Stalin Prize medal (before the State Prize), kinda like the HSU bible?

I have found info on the specific year and its recipients, but would ideally love to know which numbers correspond to which person!

Johannes,

Stalin prize medals were not numbered, so you can't know for sure to whom a specific medal belonged.

And a Stalin 3, from 1950, to a fellow who had worked in ichthyological research and in early 1930s was the director of the Pacific Institute of the Fishing Industry.

My understanding is that 1950 was the first year when Stalin Prize 3rd cl. started being awarded for science -- only 2nd and 1st classes had been awarded to scientists prior to that.

According to Alexei Rybin (Stalin's Bodyguard) the prize money that came with the award came directly from Stalin and not the state.
