It is the document book for The Order of The October Revolution, order # 190. (Low!) Maybe one of our Russian speaking members can help with the front..

Brush Plating
For the western world, brush plating is a relatively new process. Supposedly first used on a larger scale in France in 1938. Commercial use began in Europe in 1947. I believe brush plating was used earlier than 1938 for the fabrication of orders in the Soviet Union.
When watching the brush-plating operation, you might think the operator is doing a painting job as he dips the tool into a solution and wipes it over the part. Actually a series of water-based electrolytes are being used sequentially to prepare and plate the part. The plating tool consists of an insulated handle on which an anode, usually made from graphite, is molded. The anode is covered with an absorbent material that holds the solution. Two electrical leads connect from the terminals of a battery or a D.C. rectifier to the plating tool (positive) and part (negative). When tool and part make contact, the circuit is closed. As the current flows, metal ions from the solution are deposited onto the part forming a molecular bond. Brush plating has all the characteristics of regular immersion plating but it can be applied selectively. However, the plating is normally much thinner than that achieved with regular electroplating. Brush-plated gold, less than one micrometer thick, will not last forever. It will sink in or flake off.

I have one, with gold plating traces... even if not so visible on this scan.
The way the gold wash has been applied around the banner is clearly visible. And, at eye examination, gold is still visible around the star... Hope this helps. Ch. |

October Revolution
My Order of October Revolution (Variation 2 # 66673). I'm a small collector, so this is my highest award in my collection. :)

October Revolution.
After a conversation with PaulR, I wanted to ask you if it is possible that somebody received 2 Orders of the October Revolution.
Here is what Paul found on the net. Quote:

Soviet,
I don't seem to remember that it is written anywhere in the statutes that one person con only receive this order once. The Mondvor site seems to confirm that also: "Повторные награждения орденом Октябрьской Революции являются большой редкостью. Всего несколько человек удостоились этого ордена дважды: Генеральный Секретарь ЦК КПСС Брежнев Л.И., председатель ЦК КПУ Щербицкий В.В., астрофизик академик Северный А.Б., констрктор тяжелых танков и тракторов Котин Ж.Я." "Repeat awarding of this order are extremely rare. Just a few people received this order twice: General Secretary KPSS Brezhnev L.I., Chairman of Central Committee KPU Scherbintskiy V.V., astrophysicist Severniy A.B., builder of heavy tanks and tractors Kotin Zh. Ya." Who was the recipient of the orders you show in the picture above? Marc |

Quite a cool group for a "labor" group! :D :love Thanks for putting up the photo - so this is one of four groups with a double October Revolution, and to a tank builder no less. I could have sworn I've seen a double Oct Rev on a ribbon bar before though....

Hi,
I remember being told as well as reading somewhere that this order could be awarded only once to a deserving member. My sources of information could be wrong, as this is not reflected in the McDaniels book. I did find this website that confirmed this idea. It could be a false "rumor". But I remember reading this as well as hearing it from the person I bought the grouping from, many many moons ago. The page took a while to load up, but here is a copy/paste of the section. Order of the October Revolution Established October 31, 1967. It is awarded to citizens and to other countries for a significant contribution to the establishment and consolidation of Soviet power, for valour displayed in combat against enemies of the Soviet State, and for strengthening peace between peoples. It can only be presented once. The award consists of a 43mm silver gilt star with red enamled arms and gilted beams of light radiating from between the arms of the star. In the center of the star is a solid silver pentagon showing the Soviet cruiser "Aurora". Above the ship is a red enameled banner with the inscription "October Revolution" in gilt Cyrillic letters. Below the ship is a solid gold hammer and sickle. The award is suspended by a pentagonal red ribbon with five narrow blue stripes separated by narrow red stripes. It has been issued over 100,000 times |

Paul,
The official statute of this order does not preclude multiple awarding. I personally tend to favor official statutes over a dealer's writings, but that's just me :) Marc |
