T. Nackowicz: A dead give away is the leather liner. The Red Army had a very rare leather liner in the SSh36, but it was so bad quality that it used to fall out. So leather liner - not WW2. But the fact that your helmet has non-cyrilic letters in it also gives us some clues.
Without having any photos to help with IDing it I would say it's a Polish M50. It has a three rivits and 8-finger leather liner. /Kim |

Thanks Kim. I'm thinking it is Polish as well now. Good thing I'm a polok so it still interests me :)
I suppose that the price tag of $60 should have given away its orgin as well. :) Were these helmets acutally manufactured in Poland, or given to Poland by the Soviets? |

It's great that it worked out for you! Steel helmets are great fun regardless the origin. :) :D
I think all the satelite made clones of the Russian helmet were domestic production. The shells all have diffrent holes for rivits etc. The Polish helmets were also exported to lots of other countries. It was alot of helmet for a good price. /Kim |

I am not an expert at this, but...
Polish m50 (actualy they had a designation: "wzór (model) 40/50" unless I am mistaken). They were produced in poland. An interesting fact is that shortly after the war a compleately different model was designed, but was cancelled. Some say that Rokossowski didn't like "non-soviet" shape... back to m50 - there are so many of them, that they are being sold for 15pln (1$=3,4pln!) and it is the price for ones that were never used. |

That is a strange one! It is not a standard issue liner. It could be one of those Leningrad made, during the siege. Or perhaps it is a liner-less Winter War shell that have been refitted with a newly made liner. All I can say for sure is that it is a non-standard liner and chinstrap.

Well, here are the pics of the "Soviet" helmet I acquired.
Now that the experts have seen the goods, do we all think it is 1950's Polish? |

Ok, here is another "Soviet WWII" helmet I came across. It is awfully minty, which I think would be strange for a genuine WWII piece. No stamps. Six rivits low on the helmet.
Can you date these helmets just by the pads inside? Opinions? |
