Looks fine to me.
However, I would try to get one in better condition if I were you. These are fairly common awards and plenty of them are around. |

This one is for sale in Russian Federation...
It's way too worn for my taste! The reason I asked was; it's too worn out... almost like a faker decided to conceal his hanywork. Rusty.

I agree. It is way to worn.
Looks like Bogdan just came out of a boxing match with Mike Tyson. I wonder what would the rating be for this one. and the price.

Die Cracks on Soviet awards
What is a die crack - A raised, irregular line, ranging from very fine to very large, some quite irregular. These result when a hairline break occurs in a die.
During use, the dies developed certain "defects" as they might be called, more gently "characteristics," including die cracks and die breaks, and clash marks. Die cracks appear on the struck coin/medal as fine raised lines of metal and advance during die use, becoming longer and heavier. Die breaks appear as larger raised masses of metal, usually along the border, but occasionally internally. Die breaks also advance through the life of a die. I know only of one major die crack that has it's own variation. The BK2 has a die crack on the left side (see attached pic) of a Type 1 Variation 2 piece. Do you have any orders/medals with a die crack? Rusty.

Rusty,
I've had a Khmelnitsky 3rd class # 1461 with a die break on the center medallion, running from the 8 o'clock position to the 5 o'clock position. Unfortunately I not longer have a scan of it. Alexei |

Khmelnitsky - Class III
The official weight standard appears to be off on this medal or there are really a lot of fakes or somebody led me to the wrong standard.
Official standard based on the same document Content of Precious Medals in Orders Medals and Decoration badges of the USSR is 32.0 +/- 1.5 but the constituent parts are supposed to be: Body of award - Silver (925) - 28.342 +/- 1.277 Screw - Silver (925) - 1.212 +/- 0.029 Combining those parts and dividing by .925 = 31.95 or approximately 32.0. Observed weights: 3671 - 28.9 3700 - 28.5 4248 - 26.9 4749 - 29.3 5138 - 28.8 5255 - 29.5 9837 - 31.4 - meets standards ? ? ? Since the only one that met the standard is a high number, is this a later standard? I will add your numbers to my data as well. As you can see your Khmel is also in the range of observed but does not match what I have been led to believe is the standard. |

I have a Bogdan Khemlnitsky 1st Class that was authenticated for me by Mr. McDaniels before he stopped doing authentications. Along with a number of other pieces, I had this one - #69 - researched. To date, the researcher has not been able to locate information on this piece and he suggests that it may have been given to a partisan leader, in which case documentation was not always produced. CAn anyone offer suggestions on researching the piece?
