Bulgarian Orders And Medals
Hi Shane,
This recent book seems a good buy. ISBN: 954-509-240-8 Author: Todor Petrov Printed : on 13 October 2005, by Military Publishing House Ltd.; 5th revised and updated edition, FIRST ENGLISH EDITION Pages: 326 pp. , hard cover, large format 230 x 300 mm The new edition of the renown Bulgarian author- phalerist is enriched with more interesting facts and details as well as with better exposition of the awards. The studies of Todor Petrov are even more profound now. The nice design, good organization and numerous high quality photos are the features of this edition. The book comprises 4 main parts: 1. Establishment and Development of Bulgarian System of Distinction (1878-2005) 2. Bulgarian Orders, Decorations and Medals (1878-1946) 3. Honorary Titles, Orders and Medals of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria (1946-1990) 4. Orders and Medals in the Republic of Bulgaria (1990-2005), brand new part! This structure and the applied method of study provide the possibility for distinctions to be systemized and classified in separate subparts: Orders, Decorations, Medals or Honorary Titles, within the above-mentioned parts. The decorations are arranged in a chronological order, according to date of institution. The book also contains several tables with the number of people awarded with the awards of higher rank. It is an interesting fact that there have passed 23 years since the first edition of the present book was published in Bulgarian. There have been four editions of the book so far. The current version is the first one published entirely in English and comprising the newest Bulgarian awards (1990-2005). The author hasn’t limited himself to Bulgarian medals and orders only. He has also provided interesting details about certain titles (Hero of PRB, Dimitrov Prize, Mother Heroine etc.), badges (of the Red Cross, Long Service Cross etc.) and sub types of medals (different emissions, variants etc.). http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=4188 (Description CO SB ) Eddie.

Hi Sebastien,
It seems that the whole book has additional info for the time periods. Maybe someone has this book in their library and can give more details of the communist period section. Regards Eddie

This goes for the communist stuff too. It shows the orders and medals and gives quite a lot of detailed info on them, particularly the number awarded for most of the orders. It also does a decent job of listing variations for many of the orders. One serious drawback, at least in the communist section, is the fact that there are virtually no pics of the reverses of orders, and this is quite a shame (fortunately I have most of the pieces in person, so that helps at least for me). A final cool touch is that it also deals quite extensively with post-communist orders. Overall this is a book well worth buying if you're into Bulgarian stuff, and it retails for around $85.

Matthijs,
Thanks for the additional info, just what we needed :) I think all the previous editions of this book were in Bulgarian only which would make this an interesting book for Shane. http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=4188 Eddie.

Can anyone PM me some links to good Bulgarian dealers? Thanks. Kind Regards, Shane Cook. |
