I just needed to show a few pics of my latest piece. It's my first Nevsky :)
Cheers

Here is an Order of Nevsky that I originally purchased three years ago, and sold off. I've regretted parting with this, but am happy that I was able to buy it back this morning.

Nevsky
Continuing my photograhical contibutions here is my Nevsky.
I'm using more artificial light than usual in this instance. Generally I take my photos in the morning when the sun shines through the dining room window. Here it's on the same window with indirect sunlight (6PM EDT) and one small overhead bulb lighting the item. I also used a black background (inside out T-shirt) instead of what was my previous preference: plain white paper. I like the black now. :) With my Kodak Easyshare Z730 in 'manual' mode I tried the f-stop (aperture) at maximum (5.6) and minimum (2.8). Shutter speed was of course quite slow, between (as I recall) 1.5" and 3.0". Exposure compensation was at +4.0. With this subject in particular I've noticed the bottom of the order is often the less well photographed part so what I did, to take advantage of the light is to shoot the item upside down and then rotate the image in Photoshop. In all these images the only photoshopping I've done is rotating the image 180 degrees and cropping the extra background. Personally, I think I'm getting just a bit too much glare and not enough light to show the enamel well. But it's not a bad start.

Re: Red Banner ORB T2V2
I like how the black absorbs any of the stray light. Your eyes are on the subject matter and not wandering around in the background. Nice..you might try holding up a piece of translucent paper, such as tracing paper, above the award to diffuse the light a little.

Here's my "studio". You can see the window with a white sheet over it to help filter the sunlight. In the morning I use two sheets. The overhead lighting. The 'thing' I use directly around item photgraphed. Again, a white bedsheet. It's on a 3 sided aluminum frame and suspended from the ceiling. It's removeable so we can sit and eat at the dining room table. :D
You can see the camera tripod and the black background (T-shirt). Pretty standard household conditions so y'all have no reason not to great pictures as well! ;) Thanks. Yeah, I want to add a "top" to the 'thing' I have all around the immediate "shooting" area. Good point about the "eyes on the subject". It's true.

Re: Order of Alexander Nevsky
Since it's very slow here this weekend here's mine again. It's been discussed before but every year or so I start to wonder about it.
I bought it here in Florida about 5 years ago for $500 (I think) which was a pretty good price back then. It's what happened to the serial number that makes me wonder. I think the number's 28074. What do you guys think is the story?

Re: Order of Alexander Nevsky
Eric,
Most Orders of Nevsky in the 27~28K range have signs of mint-changed SNs. I have not heard of a specific reason for that though. Marc |

Re: Order of Alexander Nevsky
Really? That is most interesting.
I always assumed the vet tried scratching it off to hide his identity. But then I thought that any vet of the GPW, not to mention one who won a Nevsky could certainly scratch the number off completely, not the half-arsed job seen here. I certainly love the hear some theories aboot this. :)
