Hello, William.
I have serious doubts as to this being an authentic Soviet award as it is not compatible with any type I have ever seen before. BTW, the ribbon shown with the 'medal' would be for the 1939 German War Merit Cross 2nd class. Robert |

Robert,
This medal was part of lot consisting of awards from various countries (including 3rd Reich). I know the Victory medal doesn't look like anything we've seen before, but think about it - why make fake for a medal that only costs $5 max? There must be some other motive. William |

William,
If you can produce enough even at such a low price it is possible to make a good profit. As for the loop it is possible its a repair. But I lean more towards fake as I dont like the colour it looks like artificial patina. Just my opinion. Mark Quote:

Mark,
You're possibly right about it having a repaired loop. Some good macro photos of the loop would be helpful. If you don't have a macro feature in your camera, just shoot through a magnifying glass. William, Can you identify the metal this medal was constructed of? Is it brass? A larger, clearer photo of the medal would be helpful. Robert :) |

Gents,
I wish I had this medal in my posession to tell you all details. It was offered as part of rather inexpensive lot of WW2 period militaria. Even is the medal was made from teh scratch, the seller is not looking to make substantial profit on this sale. William |

With the very affordable cost for an original Victory over Germany medal I would stay with the known types/variations and steer a course away from pieces like these. Why pollute a good collection with a piece like this when you can have a type 1 for very little out of pocket? Hope this helps. IMOP there is just no substitue for the authentic. Who wants the rest? It's obvious the seller doesn't.

Could this medal been awarded to a foreigner (I mean non-Soviet, i.e. French or ...) and adapted to the "wear code" of the awardee to be consistent with his other medals ?
Just my thought... Cheers. Ch. |

Christophe,
To me that's exactly what happened in this case. Just look at the OGPW II that was adapted into an existing bar. Rusty.

Rusty,
In this case would the medal have been worn with the same ribbon material (black/gold), only suspended in the way consistant with the recipient's 'dress code?' Robert |

Robert,
Probably... as shown in many cases. Ch. |
