OK McL, New World, etc (particularly Christian Zulus)

I´m truly happy with this thread & your answers. Your participation is very valious (I think). Would you like the same questions about Types / Variations. I think it´s easier & not lesser interesting. Don´t you think?. This last thread is in General Talk.

Regards from Galicia

Doug,

That could be cool. I'm actually thinking about publishing the data in book for as soon as it is compiled. So I might place a call for contributors to submit copies of their research. I am only using offical research from the archives to compile this data (not from Order Books), so I will probably keep the addition and control of data in my hands for awhile. This is just my historian training coming out, as I want to have control of the sources of data.

In its present form, I should get a nice sample of most of the Orders. I might also be able to compile a list of all Glory 1st Class and maybe a HSU list, but I do not know if this would be practicle. It would take forever to do this.

If anyone has research (that was not ordered through me, as I have a copy of everything that goes through me hands) I would like to have a copy.

Take care,
Ed

McL,

Your Red Star list is great. In compiling my list, I have found a similar hole in the sequence of awards in Red Stars. I have two (3086539, and 3087672) which were both awarded in 1945 by the 2nd Belorussian Front. The Red Stars before and after are long service Stars with a 1951 issue date.

Take care,
Ed

Red Banner list

I have list of about 700 Red Banners with serial numbers and names. Unfortunately, I can not publish this list since it was compiled by guy in Russia and he is going to use it for his publication.
Those two serial numbers were taken from his list and 100% reliable.

Ed,

Your research method makes sense to me. When I get near a copy machine, I'll make copies of my award cards and send them to you.

WHY BOOK?

Guys (particularlly Ed) one question:

If you are interested in publishing that...

Why publish it like a book???. NOT ONLY book, but also (or better if only one can be done) in an INTERACTIVE CD-ROM. It will be easier, cheaper, faster & most useful.

Don´t you think? :)

SN's for Dec 1956 Red Banner's and Red Star's

Hello,
Wonder if any of you can give me some info on the appx SN range for Red Banner's and Red Star's that were awarded in Dec 1956 to Jan 57. I am looking for pieces that could have been awarded for actions in the Hungarian revolution of 1956. Thanks,

Bryan

Bryan,

Roughly that would be 3421XXX to 3500XXX (I am sure Ed has better data), not counting those that were awarded for that period after that period.

Bryan,

I have Red Banners between 499517 and 528408 for Dec 30, 1956.

As for Red Stars, the range is 3396891 to 3529619 (30 Dec. 1956).

I wish I could be of more help but these are all long service awards awarded on the same day. I'm sure the spread is even larger then these numbers.

Good luck,
Ed

Alexei and Ed,

Thanks to both of you for the info. The mass awarding of long service awards of the 30 Dec 1956 is sure to cause me problems.

I have a Vernon's price guide from the late 1980's and the prices for even the most common medal today was high back then. I think the HSU star was priced at $10,000 or $15,000.

Bryan
