What is this certificate for?
My russian isn't good enough to figure out what this attractive document is for. When I bought it years ago, I was told it went with an OPW award but I think that is just part of the decor of Alexander Surovnev"s recognition for something to do with the war and the title sounds like a time in service recognition. ideas?

Re: What is this certificate for?
It congratulates parents for their son's earning a state award.

Re: What is this certificate for?
I'm sure they were very happy to receive one of these through the post rather than a black framed notice....

Re: Translation Help
I found the citation to a BM from the same guy I asked about in the previous posts #140-142.
Could someone please help me smooth this out: В боях под с. Влины при самоотверженной и стойкой работе, ведя огонь по огневым точкам и живой силе противника в составе своего расчета уничтожил: 1 наблюдательный пост и две огневые точки, подавив при этом одну артбатарей. Here is my translation: In combat around the village of Vliny, by selfless and steadfast work as part of a gun crew, conducted fire on weapon emplacements and live enemy targets and destroyed: one observation point and two weapon emplacements, after suppressing an artillery battery. Thanks, Simon |

Help with term please
How does one translate "военпред-руководитель, # [some number] Военного Представительства МО"? Something about military representatives?
Also: "Пр. ВС СССР" and "пом. началник" Thanks, Alex Last edited by RedMaestro2; 12-28-2011 at 04:20 PM. |

Re: Help with term please
военпред-руководитель, # [some number] Военного Представительства МО - Literally "Military representative of the Military Representation of the Ministry of Defense" - I'll leave this one to someone with more legal knowledge.
Пр. ВС СССР - Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR пом. началник - Asisstant chief |

Here's a bit out of a soviet military dictionary about military reps. When I copied this I forgot to write down which term exactly I looked up though (doh!). "(военпред) офицер или служащий вооруж сли, наделённый правом контролировать кач-во продукции, выпускаемой пром. предприятиями, выполняющими воен. заказы . В. п. существуют во мн. странах." |

Re: Help with term please
Any more thoughts here? Is the literal translation it or is there a better way?
