Update on NKVD+ Fakes.
Many of these fakes are still being offered for sale on E. They go for the $40-80 range. In fact, I have not seen a genuine state security ID on E for many months - although I don't look everyday. Therefore, be very, very warry!!! There are some minor improvements. I have recently seen one with an attempt at much better hand writting. However, it was still of a type on the fake list given above in this thread and had a known bad serial number. I have also seen some fake IDs being offered as sets, with the same photo being used on both docs. I have several genuine sets in my collection. All use different photos for each doc. Even in consective years!! Shawn |

can I bring my mess? what can we conclude about the difference in the photos? Alexei who I trust completely show us 2 docs with the same character picture, distant from four years...
I believe both Alexei and Shawn, but as phaleristic is not an exact science, what advice can you give us Shawn? regards, sebastien

Sebastien,
You are absolutely right about Alexei's set, which is definietly good. I did not notice that until after you pointed it out. I should then say it is very rare to see it. I have never had one personally and Alexei's is all I know of. But I am sure there are some others out there that are genuine. Things like the identical photo should be red flags which sound warning bells. If nothing else is wrong then the item is likely good, as in Alexei's examples. But look carefully. The examples on E are both of types which are definitely bad and covered by my large post above (on page 2 of this thread). Shawn |
