Re: Put a Face to a Forum Member
Aye. Back in the 80's I was trained as a cannon Artilleryman to fight the Soviet Army. Now, two decades later, some of closer colleagues served in that Soviet Army, and I've been re-trained to defend against a very different enemy. If only I could just retire, get a big house with views of mountains, and settle down to enjoy family, photography, medals & orders, model trains, good books, and learn to make beer, wine, and hootch... Wouldn't life be grand?

Taken at my last static line jump. All jumps after this were free fall. White spot next to my right ankle is a twenty five foot diameter landing zone.

I'm a "Five Jump Chump" with five static-line jumps at 1200 feet courtesy of Uncle Sugar 22 years ago. It was a thrill, but I'm not inclined to do it again. The wings are cool, but all five times I hit the ground like a sack of sh_t.

Today is my birthday and inside the card my mother sent me was this.
Note the little balls on the booties.

Here is a photo of me during a visit to the Stones River National Battlefield Park. I've always had an interest in Civil War history, and last May my wife and I spent a few days exploring various historic sites from Civil War battlefields, Native American sites, and even the site of a former POW camp for German prisoners.

Re: Put a Face to a Forum Member
Here's me (I am the one on the top) prepearing to serve as a mobile advertisement This "set" is supposed to immitate Polish m36 uniform, but of course no real reenactor would show up in such a mix: MP parade cap (early 90's realy huge and that's why I look a bit silly...), Ministery of Interior Affairs troop jacket (80's, but apart from buttons it doesn't differ much from m36 uniforms) in ridiculous size, Soviet EM breeches (80's, there was no way breeches matching the jacket would fit me...), Soviet parade boots (70's-80's),
Romanian Belt (40's/50's), Soviet shashka (1922), repro scabbard (w/authentic brass tough) and a flask of vodka (authentic 40% from 2008!) in pocket. btw. Note that the white/blue vechicle in the background is authentic UAZ. Still has original green paint inside. |

Re: Put a Face to a Forum Member
From here I think that looks pretty darn good!
I think the horse may be a repro though.
