Greg,
The digits used are too large for being a duplicate or reissue. I think that it is simply an attempt to deceive. Marc |

Found Another One
It's February 25th and I just saw a screw-back Order of the Badge of Honour on e***. Serial number is 89248 which, if I recall correctly, is a whole lot larger number than a screw-back should have. I will say that it's a pretty good job; no apparent enamel damage from adding the screw and I can't detect and "grind" marks on the upper arm of the star. Maybe a re-cast?

Looked at it.
The position of the bottom rivet matches a type 3 more than a type 2. The screw post, also, looks more like a Red star than Honor. Of course the serial number is also well in the type 3 range. I think they cut the ring off and didn't even bother trying to smooth out the serial number. I might bid on it to put on an M40 uniform but certainly won't get in a bidding war over it.
The same seller is selling some high end orders and medals...and this. The Nevsky and Ushakov actually don't look too bad but with something like this, what else can I say? Last edited by Jeffrey Meffert; 02-26-2007 at 01:13 AM. Reason: added info |

Another creative Khmelnitsky. Intended to be a 2cl, and possibly the most detailed fake Khmelnitsky that I've recently seen on eBay, but the manufacturer never bothered to gild the medallion. Strange.
Editing this post rather than making a new one: the second attachment below is from the same seller as the "suspension-type" Khmelnitsky in Jeffrey Meffert's post above. Last edited by January; 02-26-2007 at 07:50 AM. Reason: Editing this post rather than making a new one |

Dyslexic Medal Parade Mounts
There was a discussion a few months back on whether legitimate parade mounts could have the ribbons reversed like that. Discussion was settled with production of vintage photos (including at least one flag officer) showing the medals mounted such. Still, coming from the seller of highest recorded serial number Type 2 order of honor and the even more rare suspension Khmelnitsky, it would be generous to assume that they "came that way".

The original owner might have mounted the ribbons backwards for some reason, but why use a RBL ribbon for a Combat Service medal? Also, Combat Service should be at far left, before Victory over Germany.

creative marketing
There's a seller from Israel with a peculiar advertising technique (or someone who was badly let down by the English teacher). Here's one sample (some text omitted):
Russian Soviet medal For Clearing of Warsaw USSR. Silver!!!!! Hot enamel!!! 100% original!!!! And another: Russia soviet military medal For Defense Caucasus.USSR. Silver!!!!! And another: Russia soviet military medal For Defense Moscow. Silver!!!!! Can you guess what the medal for the Defense of Leningrad is made of? Silver!!!!! But, surprisingly, no mention of silver for the Bravery Medal! Do you think I should tell him or her? Sergei |

If it's shiny it MUST be silver
