Re: Ribbons, Ribbon Bars And Order Of Precedence.
I'd say that CSM, one ORS ansd maybe one ORB would be for the years of service. In this case, he would have served for 20 years before 1957, so the service started in 1937 at latest. Being born around 1915 he would still have a good chance to be alive in 1978 to get the anniversary.
Not exactly no post-war service I'd say. Also, Lenin can be for 25 years, which would mean he was born even earlier. |

Re: Ribbons, Ribbon Bars And Order Of Precedence.
Thanks! Definitely, there are likely long service awards in there.
This is why I love ribbon bars, it's always a fun exercise to go through the permutations. One theory could be, the recipient could have been born between 1901 and 1906--too young to start serving in 1918 (thus no XX Years of RKKA Medal), and too old to be on active duty by 1957 (thus no 40 years of Soviet Army Medal). With that scenario, the Lenin could be for 25 years of service--and the service ended some time between 1947 and 1957. :thumbsup George |

Re: Ribbons, Ribbon Bars And Order Of Precedence.
I agree that the long service awards are there - the Lenin, one RB, RS, and CSM. Nice ribbon bar!

Re: Ribbons, Ribbon Bars And Order Of Precedence.
Thanks! I considered Vietnam, but offhand didn't see a comparable ribbon. Do you think it's http://soviet-awards.com/forum/sovie...oit-order.html or another award?

It could be that one but for some strange reason I've not posted any Vietnamese awards. One will certainly turn up on the forum with the same ribbon sooner or later (Hint hint).
If indeed it is Vietnamese it is the 2nd class. This mentioning of Vietnamese awards has really make me realise how much I've still got in backlog to post. Lots of Vietnamese and Mongolian bits from the full spectrum and less than 10% of the Bulgarian stuff has seen the light of day. Really must try and find the time. Additionally, here seems a rather convenient place to mention that there has been a vast expansion in forum groups over the last month (about 50 new sections) and more are coming to host the vast array of items posted. So many weird and wonderful pieces of history out there presenting themselves. Don't be blinkered - browse around all of the forum you might just find some hidden treasure! There are also more research possibilities than ever. Not just Soviet Union but Bulgaria, Albania, Yugoslavia, PMR and sometimes even other places and the price is usually right too. Hopefully there will be a thread exposing every ribbon in the near future.

Re: Ribbons, Ribbon Bars And Order Of Precedence.
I got this bar before the summer. Quite impressive awards!
- Order for Service to Socialist Motherland III - Combat service - Combat service - 15 years of irreproachable service - 10 years of irreproachable service - Medal from the grateful Afghanistan people Not so bad. What bothers me just a bit is the lack of anniversary awards, on the other hand the owner may have chosen to use just what was important. If anyone is interested in this bar, let me know. I do not collect ribbon bars. |

Re: Ribbons, Ribbon Bars And Order Of Precedence.
Here's an early 1970's vintage bar to someone who certain did something during the war.
Red Star, For Bravery, For Bravery, For Combat Merits, For Combat Merits, Königsberg, Victory Over Germany, 20 VOG, 40 SAF.
