I've seen this several times with both military and civilian athletes.

The medals seems to be attached to a sash... easy for wearing.

I suppose that like in many other militaries, only certain government and officially-approved badges and decorations could be attached to a military uniform. The sash could also be a work-around within the uniform rules.

The sash also says something which I can't make out due to the awards pinned over it.

This is a very rare photo of the famous Russian aquatic champion "Marek Spitski" at the close of the 1980 Olymics in Moscow.

Photo - Russian Advisors in Mongolia or China?

I've had this photo tucked away for awhile, and was wondering if it might ring a bell with anyone here. The dress of the Caucasians look Russian to me. Could these be military advisers? Any ideas?

Photo is 8x10", dated July 4, 1928 on the back

Nice pictures. No telling on the status of the "round eyes". The presence of the camels and the terrain definitely look like Mongolia/north west China.

SMLE rifles...?

Two of the rifles look like they might be Short Model Lee Enfields - standard British issue - from looking at the flat appearance of barrel and stock at the muzzle. That rifle was ubiquitious, but it might indicate a different imperial presence since it fired a different cartridge than a Russian advisor might supply. Still, I can't quite tell from the photographs. It's just I happen to see with my eyes.

Photo: Translation Request

Can anyone read this text, and translate it? It's on the reverse of the picture shown.
