You can find them in Kutsenko's Book "Orders of the USSR". However, you aren't going to find a comprehensive list for the Orders of Glory. They were awarded in a non-sequential fashion, e.g., they were awarded based on what awards each unit had. Thus, a unit in a sector that saw less combat could be awarding a five (or even four) digit Glory 3rd in May 1945 whereas a unit that saw a lot of combat could be awarding the same award at the same time but in the 500,000+ serial number range! --Dave |

Pre-1947 SN's
I'd appreciate anyone's help on collecting any pre-1947 military SN's for a project I'm working. I'll need the information for type of award, SN, awarding unit & date of authorization, and finally anything interesting or unusual about award in the following manner:
Red Star, #123.456, 321MessKit Repair Battalion, NKVD Commissar This information must be the authorization date, not the presentation date where they actually put the award in the guy's hands. This information should come from research, not from award booklets. Appropriate credit will occur. Ask if you have questions. Thanks in advance. |

Hi there.
I´m new in this thread (although I have some years in the forum) and I´d like to add the S/Ns of my awards. However, I want to know if there is a way to know the dates because I bought them with no docs. Here they are: OGPW 2nd class #1584231 Red Star #3538222 Glory 3rd class #273926 Military Merit #2638876 If this post has other purpose than the thread please forgive me, but help me too. Esteban

Red Star - post 1956 Order of Glory 3rd class: If I am using other serial numbers as a reference, this one would be in the first few months of 1945. But if you read all the thread, you will see that sometimes it isn't too indicative as it would depend how active the front was etc... The other awards, hopefully someone else can answer your querry. Found this bit of information on another website. Thought I'd post some of it here: Order of Glory 3rd class serial 805395. Date of deed: 22 Jan 1945 Date approved: 20 March 1945 Date awarded: 28 March 1990 Yes 1990 not a typo. This reaffirms the need to obtain archival info to confirm for certain all the serial numbers.

If you are still looking for info like this I have had research done on a low number Oder Patriotic War 1st class #10834 to a Political Officer in the 13th Guards Armored Brigade on August 18th ,1943 and a low number Patriotic War 2nd class #7213 to the communications Commader of 3rd Guards Cavalry Corps during the crossing of the Don early February 1942. Both awards were to Officers who ended their wartime service as Colonels. PM me and I will send it along for you. Regards, Ron |

Gents, I just acquired a nice T1 V3 Combat Service medal with serial number 199912. Would this medal be low enough to have been issued for the Winter War? If not, any ideas? Thanks

The number of Combat Merit Medals Issued prior to the Patriotic War is in the vicinity of 21,000 to 22,000 all of these would be T1 V1. That number would include all issued for the Battles at Kalkin-gol and other areas of the Far-East border scirmages with the Japanese as well as the Winter War in Finland. Ron |
