Thank you very much for all your input, I think it was definitely gold plated at mint and as an early issue they went overboard on the Gold plating for someone or somewhere special to avoid any embarrasment with fading?
I guess until we can get a record on the issue it will remain a mystery? Thanks again for all your input. |

What an interesting piece! I have seen ORs with lower serial numbers and with serial numbers very close to this one, I've seen them in mint condition with all the gold intact, and I've seen a documented piece to a foreigner, but this is the first one for me as well. I think PMD offers the only plausible explanation, and what you have may very well be a unique piece.

The reason for the 5th rivet...
I'm pretty sure it was because too many awardees had too many problems with their hammer and sickle rotating over time because (even though notched at the rear), it sits at an angle by design. Put in that extra rivet, and the H&S becomes a whole lot more stable. I have one of each type, and I can really see the difference: the extra rivet is a better structural design overall.

October Revolution
Hi!
I just bought an Order of the October Revolution & award book. I don't have any doubts about the order itself, but I'm a bit puzzled by the award book. It doesn't have a valid without picture-stamp on the photo page. Also, the book is dated 1967 and the order was awarded in 1978! I'd like opinions about this. Here's some pictures of the order first. PS: If the seller is reading this post, it is by no means intended as a sign of mistrust. I'm just looking for expert opinions, and am very happy with the trade! :thumbsup -Stah |

Re: Recent acquisition: Order of the October Revolution
I don't think the booklet print year of 1967 is a bad sign, I assume that as with everything else, these booklets were printed in huge quantities "for future needs".

October Revolution
I have a quick questions for the forum regarding the Order of the October Revolution. Is the gold hammer and sickle at the bottom of the medallion made of gold or is it gold plated silver?
Cheers, Will |
