boards
Marc,
Instead of simply saying that you don' t think the boards are Soviet, which is not very specific or helpful, please state why and what you think they might be. JeffM did bring up concerns about the buttons, which is a specific point rather than a generalization. Doc, Though i am not that into late-era Soviet boards, they look Soviet or Russian to me. Thank You, DougD Moderator |

A couple Pairs of Medical Shoulderboards
Thanks Doug!!! I am pretty sure that I've seen both of these in "Stalins War...". The buttons did concern me a bit.

boards
Doc,
As I stated, they look later Soviet to me (they look lime Police/Militia to me!); if other feel they are not i'd like to hear why rather than a generalization....as for the book you mention, while ok here and there, just be careful using it as a source as there are quite a few errors in the previous volumes. One of these days I am going to combine these threads into a Soviet Medical Uniforms and Insignia thread and clean it up a bit. DougD Moderator |

Sometimes, you just see things that, for whatever reason, you feel are not right, but can't really tell why. Maybe someone more infallible than I am does not experience that type of feeling; I happen to be a mere mortal, and unless I am 100% certain of what I say, I tend to put things in "diplomatic" terms. Maybe the Narkoms and other upper powers have outlawed doing that, but I don't remember being told so. From what I see, the Major boards do not have piping, which is very un-soviet in my book. I do not recognize the surface pattern and the material, and finally 6-sided, buttoned parade boards were changed to 4-sided sewed on boards way back in the 1950's. The gray Lieutenant's boards look like Milicia boards. Here again, I don't recognize the pattern and the material, and their shape does not correspond to what they are presented as. I am not getting into buttons, as these can be changed simply on a whim. I'd tend to think that they are post soviet, and most likely from some former Union republic (eg Ukraine, Belarus...), and may (or may not) be related to the medical field at all. Marc Forum Member |

Since it seems that these may not be Medical Service shoulderboards, I am now simply looking for answers to this "Puzzle". My hope is that they are Medical. If not, I would like to know what they are. Marc, I agree that the buttons are not relevant as they can be replaced as can the Branch insignia for that matter. Basically, I am simply saying "Help Please" Doc Last edited by CtahhR; 03-09-2013 at 03:57 PM. |

Marc,
I am not sure why you became so defensive, I am simply asking you (or any forum participant) to not be so general about overall feelings about items, etc. I also have certain feelings about items, mostly things on E-bay by a certain "Auctions" seller, but wait until i can be specific about 'whats' and 'whys' (thus see the warning:fakes thread)...you did that here in your follow up post. I simply ask that you do that before simply saying " I don't like it" or "there is an issue" etc. No one told you want you can and can not post here and your post was not edited or deleted, so I am not sure why you feel the need to be so defensive about it. There are a lot of forums out there, most of which quickly suffer from infighting amongst collectors based on simple "feelings" , "not look right" etc. As moderator I am trying to avoid that here in the cloth areas, as Art is trying to avoid in the forum overall. Debates about items are fine, and you may be right, these might be post-Soviet Republic boards (you bring up valid points), but I am simply asking for non-personal, thought out responses, as you did very well in your follow up. I hope you understand my reasoning. Doc, I think the boards are medical, but as Marc pointed out, they might be post-Soviet republic boards (Russian, Ukrainian, etc.); they could also be Militia medical. The white boards look like shirt boards rather than tunic boards to me, perhaps why they lack the piping. I'll get that medical thread going...there should be some old posts / threads we can combine for one main thread. I have combined all of Doc's 'medical' threads into one overall thread about Soviet Medical Uniforms / Insignia. DougD Moderator Last edited by CtahhR; 03-09-2013 at 03:58 PM. |
