Agreed, looks cool and likely an interesting story behind it as well;)

Re: Fake Medals for Combat Service

Guys,

A small technical point here. Plating can only be done on metal as it is done by electrolysis. In other terms, the object will be plated only if it conducts electricity. Glass (hence enamel) is an isolator that does not conduct electricity.

What does that mean? If this medal originally had enamel it shouldn't have been plated over?????

Re: Fake Medals for Combat Service

I think what Marc is saying is that once a CSM is plated the new "silver" would lay only on the metal and not on the glass (enamel).

Just some old veteran who was proud enough to try to make his rack as shiny possible! Nothin' wrong with that if done by the man himself. :thumbsup

Combat Service medal

Hi!

I've been offered this Combat Service medal by a local collector. I know it's a common type and seems good, but I can't buy anything nowadays without the forum's experts OK'ing the purchase. :o By the way, any idea when it was issued? The serial is 2951342.

Thanks,
Stah

Re: Combat Service medal

Stah

looks good to me. Likely award period is September 1944 to January 1945.

Brendan:thumbsup
