Sunny Queensland? Brisbane is where you can experience standing in a downpour and still be sweating because it's 40c/104f degrees out. That would be hell on the old cardboard mansion. Soaking wet and stinking hot. Quote:

I guess the trick is to substantially narrow your collecting field... which of course requires self discipline and that is one thing that ODM collectors tend to NOT have

Order of Glory III new level
ok, so doing a random check of eb?y, I noticed a new "wacko" seller from Australia hawking two "Buy Now" orders (#319.837 and #157.236) for AU $195.00 and AU $245.00 respectively.
They also have two ORS' for sale. #3.063.254 for AU $175.00 and #3616174 for AU $150.00 Gee, when people buy at these prices, I will be setting on a gold mine.

Buy and Sell or Sell and Buy
A recent comment made reference to "having" the Orders of the Caucasus already and travelling to buy more.
If you have and are willing to part, see if you are 1/4 millionaire, before you spend money to not make money. It has been pointed out that the market is, as they say "thin." That means there are only a couple of guys who want this stuff. When they are satisified the market may tank. New Jersey looks different today on the internet. SO maybe two guys are happy now. Thus my warning about "tulips." But if you test the market first, you may find you can't retire and need to continue to work. Sell one or try and see! Now which national treasure I am willing to part with to follow my own advice? My friend's Suvarov, Right! |

State of the hobby.
Hello All
I just joined the forum and have been collecting for a couple of months now and would like to ask a question. What are the members opinion as to the state of the hobby? By this I mean what about current prices, where the were in the past and where you'll think they are going. Also what about supply/availbility for the future? Thank you |

Re: State of the hobby.
The prices have risen since 1991, of course. While it was still possible to get most awards (of course apart from the highest WW2 orders etc) at decent prices all until a few years ago, it is very expensive to get a basic collection today. Red Banner and October Revolution orders now go for 500 USD per piece; Red Stars are over 50 USD and some of the WW2 campaign medals are very hard to find. I did not really get into collecting Soviet awards until the late 90s and I am glad I made the massive purchases back then.
