Hi guys,
maybe I'll be out of topic... We all know these parà badges were weared even by other branch of the army or navy , for ex. Naval infatry...a sort of further specialization for those men (btw I don't remember in wich book I read that naval inf. was more "lucky" in jump training and war actions than regular paratroopers during war times or in the 30's...). Anyone knows of otlichnik parà badges weared by other than paratrooper men, maybe it was not possible. And, more, did it's possible for a soviet soldier or officer to wear on his uniform jump qualification badges from other Warsaw pact countries (for ex. Poland or DDR) ? Thanks, Daniele |

I'm not aware of Soviet paratroopers wearing other nations' airborne badges and have not seen any photographic evidence of it. |

Thanks Desantnik!
My english is horrible, I know...but I wonder if other Army or Navy soldiers (for ex.naval inf.) could wear "otlichnik parashutist" badge on their breast. Were they permitted to take a so further specialization? or did it was only for paratroopers specifically? Thanks D. |

The designation on the parachutist badge applies solely to the skill of jumping itself, NOT all the other stuff like shooting, digging a foxhole, etc. For these other skills, soldiers and officers would wear an additional badge showing their overall proficiency in their specialty. |

Veteran's Paratrooper Badge
Can anyone help with this abbreviation - OOOMA? I'm sure one of the "O"s is probably "otryad" or detachment. Another "O" could be "otdelnii". Any clues on the other "O", "M", or "A".
The KBF is "Red Banner Baltic Fleet". Interestingly the first try remains on the reverse. |
