Christophe,

No other ideas..as has been noted previously, this mark is unusual in that it doesn't appear like the typical makers marks we've seen. When I first purchased the award I didn't even think it was a makers mark, but thought it was simply a tired or bored craftsman maybe tapping the tip of one of his tools into the metal. It almost appears to have the same diameter as the top of a rivet. Perhaps this was the tip of the tool which was placed over the rivet and tapped, giving the rivet a small overlap?

Art,

Thanks for your comments. Interesting to notice that this "rivet" seems to be always at the same place...

Hi to all,

We did not elaborate about this remark... Has anyone a clue about this ?

Christophe,

In the new Avers-6 they call them "technical marks", whatever that means. I will try to do some research on the Russian Internet.

... and also "mintsmeister's marks". I am wondering if they had ever researched this.

Alexei, Christophe,
This is certainly an interesting point to make. I think we have more or less all been thinking these marks are "mintsmeister's marks".
I sent a few mails to the mints asking if they had any information regarding this subject but with no response. I have a feeling it is a distinct disadvantage having to mail in English. It might be worth a try in Russian though, if one of our Russian speakers has the time. ;)
Whilst researching various other topics I have found that the people reply much more readily if the mail is written in their native language.

Eddie.

Eddie,

Excellent!! Let's see if you get results... We have nothing to lose, in all cases.

Guys,

I have tried to communicate with Moscow mint in the past, but it would seem they don't want to be bothered with such noncense  I am hoping Eddie would have better luck.

This may or may not help, but Henry Sakaida sent a typed letter ( in Russian of course ) and received a very cordial reply.
