One of my favourite pieces, the twisted ring gives it the little bit of character i like.

Perusing our favorite auction site (US) revealed the following, and it prompted memory of a similar serial number on an award a member put up for auction. Both are Glories, and both show the same odd engraving for the number 2. (The top one is the one posted on this board, the bottom on e***.)

The same guy making the same mistake twice? A natural mistake given the method/technique used to engrave the number? (Have no idea, but repetitive tasks tend to take on a life of their own, and often the same "duho!!!!" moment over and over again.) Something else? Anyway, thought it was interesting.

I don't think that the engraver made any mistake here; this is simply his own "handwriting" with its specific idiosyncrasies.

That makes sense especially given the consistent style of other numbers.

This lower numberd 3rd class Glory came in today for my collection.
Should be early 1944.

It's a nice lower numbered example, possibly late 1943/early 1944 per the "Green Bible". . .

IMHO, I would advise AGAINST adding this piece to someone's retirement fund...
