Tal,

It is the genuine style of badge for sub commanders, not crew. However, it is not rare. I have bought several for $5 each.

I don't know what is up with them. Maybe they are fakes and the real thing is much better quality but if so I have never seen one. I suspect they are real but mass-produced. I myself have seen more of them than the number of subs the USSR had. ;)

There are also fakes made in UK but they have subtle differences.

Tal,

This is a 1943 type badge, issued to sub commanders, first mates, and chief mechanics. As Shawn had mentioned it is still been coined in Russia.

A lot of things can be said about the capture of Berlin medal. The description below is - to my opinion - not one of them:

"Russian Soviet WWII Berlin medal Uncommon ".

New World,

If we had a prize for the funniest fantasy medal you would be the winner. I am glad I was sitting down when I saw this. The word on the pin is Yakutia. LOL!!

Another "non expert" way to make a buck (at least trying to) - the following description regards the veteran of labor medal (bargain - at $25.00):

"You are bidding on an OLD Russian Military Issue MEDAL. I do not know anything about it but it was in a box with other old medals from the 40's, 50's, and 60's. It is made of metal."

Mozzabloke,

And it's not even complete, it's missing the suspended shield with the number of years served.
