Brendan's suggestion of an info tag is a good one. On my GPW display (http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...html#post64164) I have the name of the award, the serial number and the approximate date of the award. That looks good, is informative and is an easy reference when responding here. I like to have mine easily removable so I can fondle them when the mood hits me. Or to show off to someone. Quote:
Actually I found that last one (on the previous page in this thread) in my back bedroom! But it was orginally purchased at the craft store Michaels. I like it because it's got a wood frame, real glass and it's hinged so I can inspect closely or remove easily.

Re: How to display Soviet awards
You are correct sir about the RKKA XX medal being the fake. Good eye since it's rather dark in the photo. But at least now you can see my constant problem in my mind about how to arrange these things. If I add the copy of Lenin, and the HSL and the copy of the medal for Courage, I'm going to have to remove some of the others because of the limited space on what is my largest shadow box. I think I'll stick to the orders only together with the rarest medals I have.
Thanks for the ideas and advice. Peace be with you, P.

Re: How to display Soviet awards
I've been seeing these for a while on ebay.de.
I like the idea.

Re: How to display Soviet awards
Rather nifty (had to look that one up in the dictionary to be sure it was a real word).
My problem now is space since I have practically as many documents as I do the shiny metal stuff. However, I did complete my KGB (non-frontier guard) display and only need a real 70th anniversary to replace the fake one in the photos. Anybody know where I might find one? And the NKVD "egg" is a replica because I won't be able to justify spending that kind of money on anything but an Order of Lenin. I also have a question for anyone who might know about the academy badges on the display. Is the H&S star over shield and sword really a KGB "academy badge?" I've always had my doubts and I have something else I can put in its place. (2nd posting) Any thoughts? Thanks in advance, Phillip Oh, they are in a shadow box with the glass door open for the photos.

Re: How to display Soviet awards
The first is the one I have doubts about. The second is from the MGIMO (Moscow State Institute for International Relations) which was one of the sojourn points for certain KGB agents as was the IMO (next posting).

Re: How to display Soviet awards
I apologize for the out of focus ИМО badge. The other was given to me by a friend of mine in Moscow who swears it's the academy for the CBP (former First Chief Directorate). They are some of the nicest of any post-GPW academy badge I've seen, IMHO.
The thought just hit me - a bit late - that maybe these should be in the KGB "egg" badges thread. Art, if you or anyone else wants to move these, please do. I'm not sure now where they belong.

Re: How to display Soviet awards
Nice idea, problem being is that they easily gather dust. Any of my collection is framed and under cover. All I have to do is dust the frame.

Re: How to display Soviet awards
And Brendan, that's why I like shadow boxes - you just open the glas door for easy access to your displayed items.

Re: How to display Soviet awards
Yeah, though I've seen it sold on the e-site (I bought mine in Moscow) I've never seen it in a credible book.
I am thinking about replacing it with one of these fantasy badges (60 years of SMERSH, a KGB brass buttonhole badge, the FSB Academy 75th anniversary badge, or the real 10 kopek Kiev KGB academy badge. If anyone has any suggestions (this is a shout-out to DougD), please let me know. Thanks, Phillip
