Re: How to display Soviet awards

No kidding. The only thing that makes me guess - like Eric - that the copies are of the inside is because of the texture of the covers. Regardless, it is an amazing presentation. My first thought when I saw them without looking closer or reading the text was: "Who has the time and money to find two of every booklet?"

The original document is attached by the fishing thread and you can see the cover. It is 100% safe. I am not using any glue. The display is behind the musium glass. It cannot be faded or damaged by the UV light. The displays are hanging on the wall and perfect in a vertical position.
Next to the document you can see colored copies glued to the cardboard of the same color as the cover of the document. It looks very real and looks like I cut the document in pieces to display it.
Here are few more from my Railway collection. . You can see much better here.

Re: How to display Soviet awards

Indeed, very nice and a good idea. I have a few similar "copies" of some KGB and other documents the Smithsonian had on temporary loan about 10 years ago, but they made photostatic copies of them and you could download them from their website - so I did. They are so good, you can see the bleed-through of ink from stamps on the other sides of the pages. Pretty cool.

Re: How to display Soviet awards

Thanks Eric. I just got the Nevsky several days ago (it came with a cerificate from the russian archives, including the descriptions of the officer and what he got the award for).

Re: How to display Soviet awards

Great set. Are the OGs II and III? My eyes and my computer screen aren't what they should be anymore. If so, were they to the same person as they seem to be on a single (or double - depending on semantics) hanger?

The Nevsky is one of those awards I love to see, but have no illusions about ever owning one.
