S.P. Korolev, the "chief designer" of Soviet boosters, satellites and spacecraft, is awarded HSL and an order of Lenin by L.I. Brezhnev. note the HSL and order of Lenin boxes on the table.
Korolev with 2 HSL stars and a Lenin prize.

My recent acquisition:
Pretty cool item - signed photo of Voskhod-2 crew: cosmonauts Pavel Belyayev (commander) and Alexei Leonov (flight engineer - his firts flight). The flight took place on March 18, 1965. During this flight Leonov entered history of the space exploration as the first man to leave the spacecraft and went into open space. The two cosmonauts are pictured shortly after they were awarded highest award of Bulgaria - Hero Soc Labor and Dimitrov order. They both signed the picture. Best, William |

if they show this set on regular service uniform, the photo is maybe taken in courtesy / diplomatic visit in Sofia?

An old Photo and the story behind it
Here is an old photo of a Soviet U-boat officer and some of his crew,Spring 1940. His name is Fjodor Grigorjevitj Versjinin
and he is HSU since Feb 7th 1940. He was the commander on SC-311 and got his title for sinking more then 10000 tons of enemy ships ! The truth ? Well he did sank the finnish ship Wilpas 775 ton Dec 29 th 1939 and later the Swedish ship Fenris 484 Ton Jan 5th 1940. And in just 2 years of war, Fjodors run out of luck, Oct 12th 1942 he was sunk by Finnish deapth charges. A old photo and a sad story behind it.... Christer |

Great photo.
What % of Soviet sub crews survived the war? It must be like 25% or something. Ever visit the WWII Soviet sub near Leningrad? I have been there a few times and it always amazes me how small it is inside. There are some good displays on Soviet subs in WWII in the Naval Museum in St.Pete too. DD |

Christer,
Great photograph! I've noticed that all sailors wear their Red Star orders on the LEFT side (they should be worn on the RIGHT). Were the wearing regulations different at that period? William |
