Actually, it's hard to tell when Glories were awarded. I've owned over 300 of them, with about 60 of them researched, and they date all over the map... I've had low four-digit Glory 3rd with award dates in late 1944, early 1945, and I've owned a six-digit Glory 3rd with an early 1944 award date. I've also had a 200,000 range one that was awarded in 1946.

The only way you can find out when it was awarded for sure is to research it.

Unfortunately, the Glories are the only ones that you can't pin down the award date by the order number.

As far as the price, it's about "retail", I'd say. I don't think you did badly... If I was to sell a similar piece, I'd charge $20-$25 for it, depending on condition.

Full Cavaliers of the Order of Glory - Present Day Market Realities

My interest in Full Cavaliers of the Order of Glory (which extends back well over a decade) has led me to the following general observations ref the collectors market for Full Cavalier sets that has developed in the United States and Europe over this period. I offer the following as my personal observations and welcome your comments/opinions.

The Hierarchy of Collectability (defined by dealers' asking prices for a Full Cavalier set ranked from most expensive to least expensive) as of 24 January 2008:

1) Order of Glory 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class medals with accompanying Full Cavalier award booklet that includes photo of recipient, official military commissariat stamp on photo and date when booklet was issued plus all standard entries.

2) Same as 1) above but the photo does not have the official military commissariat stamp and the booklet lacks an entry for date of issue.

3) Order of Glory 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class medals with accompanying Full Cavalier award booklet but award booklet is missing the photo, official military commissariat stamp and date booklet was issued.

4) Order of Glory 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class medals with accompanying Ordenskaya Knizhka with or without photo.

5) Order of Glory 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class medals with accompanying Voenniy Bilet.

6) Order of Glory 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class medals with research e.g. Special Awards Card for HSU and Full Cavalier and/or Standard Awards Card and/or copies of Glory Award Citations.

7) Order of Glory 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class medals that stand alone without accompanying documentation of any sort.

NOTES:

1) Over the past decade I have encountered a few category 1) Full Cavalier sets that also included the associated Ordenskaya Knizhka (OK). These occasions have been far and few between. In those instances where I have seen them, all of the other accompanying awards (e.g. Red Star or Medal for Valor) were never included/available with the set. For this reason, I have not included a separate ranking for category 1) - 3) Full Cavalier sets that might also include the OK since, in my judgment, dealers don't necessarily adjust the price upwards unless the orders/medals identified in the OK are also with the group.

2) The above ranking does not consider Full Cavalier sets that include duplicate Orders of Glory in their make up. While the duplicate(s) may be original in every respect, their presence markedly detracts from the sets' historic/monetary value.

BOTTOM LINE: My observation is that dealers' asking prices for a Full Cavalier set generally follow the above guideline. I look forward to your thoughts.

Regards,

Considering that there's enamel damage and there are no supporting document, I would say $200...

If you can get them for this take them, as most dealers here in the US are now asking around $280 for a 2nd class order of glory & $30 to $40 for a third class.

excellent! I love it! Glory order is a typical and sober (?) award, the perfect reflect in my mind of the eternal old soviet (russian ?) soldier...Yours has a nice patina and a ribbon nicely faded...please do not clean them! this is history...and the old ribbon certainly known its old honourable owner, proud to show his award at every occasion!

Thanks a lot for the kind comments. I wouldn´t clean it- if i dare, the ribbon rips again! I also got a Military Merit in the same state. I´ll post it soon.
Here is a close-up of the center. The tower clock dissapeared because of wear, I HOPE...

Slim Pickins

To all:

Quality Full Cavalier sets are just not to be had at the moment. When I recently met with one of Europe's leading dealers, I was rather dismayed at his paltry offerings. While he had several Full Cavalier sets, they were chiefly from categories 4) and 6) above. The sets were simply not of the caliber he had one to two years ago when he routinely offered Full Cavalier sets with the Full Cavalier award booklet. At the moment, the best he has to offer are sets with a copy/copies of the award citation(s) and/or special award record card and/or standard award card. The one set that did have the accompanying Ordenskaya Knizhka (OK) had a rather ratty one at that. This OK set was interesting in that it also included PMD certificates (dated 2000) as well as good English-language translations of the supporting archival documentation - all of which suggests the set's previous owner was an English-speaking Westerner. One thing is clear - the current frenzy pulling high-quality items back to the Motherland remains in full swing.
