Simon,
There are no such dealers in Chicago. Sorry, Rusty. P.S. Do you live in ChiTown?

Simon,
Rusty is correct. I have friends in Chicago and make it down there on a regular basis (for collectors shows and recreation) and have never found a mainly Soviet dealer in the area. Some dealers will have some Soviet items but it has been my experience that those dealers are not Soviet specialists. Thanks Clete

Thank you for your responses, Rusty and Clete. I live in St. Louis and will be visiting my friend in Chicago this summer. I was hoping Chicago had a dealer with at least a small assortment of Soviet combat awards. He doesn't have to have much. If he has a few common variations of GPW, glory, red star, red banner, it is good enough. I would really like to get a chance to see some orders and medals live and maybe make a small purchase such as OGPW 1985 issue. The biggest St. Louis dealer currently has not a single Soviet medal in store though he had a set of orders of glory 3 and 2 class awarded to the same individual for $150 about a year ago. I regret that I passed on it being worried that it might be a fake.

Simon,
When you are in Chicago, PM me and we'll see what I can do... Rusty.

Chicago
Hey I have a couple of flyers for Chicago area shows. If you IM me I can give you the information. Also if you have a fax number I can fax the flyers to you. I know some dealers in Chicago but I think most are WWII German vendors who happen to get Soviet stuff in on occasion. THanks Clete

Must sees in Moscow over long weekend?
I'm heading to Moscow next month for a long weekend (TH-Mo) and am wondering what are your recommended "must sees?"
It is likely to be bitterly cold, so indoor/museum sorts of ideas are of great interest. I went back through the threads to April 2005 and didn't find anything that really touched on Moscow (I'm not heading anywhere else). Any suggestions? |

weekend
Friday: Do the traditional city tour by bus, with quick tour of Kremlin Museum. Go to GUM, etc. Make it a traditional Moscow day; most good hotels will have a city tour+ package.
Saturday: KGB musuem at Lubyanka, then Central Armed Forces Museum; Border Troops Museum (if you can work getting in). Tretyakov art museum in the afternoon for a little culture. Sunday: Try to get into the Zhukov Museum; if not, WWII museum on Polkanya hill ( i am not spelling it right); afternoon, maybe Museum of Political History ( was not in great shape last time) There are some other things to do, but good weather would be best ( EEA displays near the Cosmos, Monino Air Museum, Kubinka Tank museum). |

I would suggest the Armory at Red Square, it is a seperate ticket from the Museum, but well worth the extra money. You will see jewlery from Catherene the Great, the Order of Victory etc, and gold nuggets the size of soft balls, diamonds galore etc, etc. It is a must see.
Just for your info there is a Russian ticket price and a foreigner ticket price. For us it is ten times the price . And they are very good at making sure you don't get in as a Russian . The Museum of Revolution by the Moscow Theatre, by Pushkinskya Square is well worth it. They have a very interesting collectables gift shop too. Many interesting things to buy, if you can get them out of the country. Quote:

Museum
I think the Museum of the Revolution is the Museum of Politics now; but i agree, great gift shop. Was amazing back in 2000; i bought 2 original Civil War Red Army posters in mint condition from their collection.
