Re: All Other Medals

Here I show the medal we are discussing and another one I have got from a different source. There are differences in the metal. The medal on the right looks solid copper, as it should be according to Mondvor website, the new one looks just coated brass, with the coating fading away in several locations.

cheers
sergio

Re: All Other Medals

Hi,

they both look genuine - maybe copper ran out of supply and the mint went on with the production of the medals using brass for a limited period of time !? Or they accidentially received a delivery of raw brass pieces (for victory over Germany medals f.e.) when they were manufacturing the worker`s medal. Or just one raw brass piece was left behind in a carrier used for raw copper coins later as it can be seen at our national mint from time to time... We just had an 1 Euro - coin with a center part made form copper, instead of white metal. A raw copper piece usually used for 5 - Cent - coins was left behind in a container later used for white metal raw pieces for the center part of the 1 - Euro - coin; and this is how it happens...

Jens,

You should weigh them, just to be sure.

By the way, good catch with the valiant labor, it is quite scarce :thumbsup

Re: All Other Medals

Curious; The Comprehensive Guide states these medals are of Bronze while The Mondvor website (through Prompt™ translator services) claims they are made of Copper.
Just so we're clear bronze is an alloy of copper and usually tin whereas brass is an alloy of copper and zinc.

(and 'Nordic gold', used in 10, 20 and 50 cts euro coins, contains 89% copper, 5% aluminium, 5% zinc, and 1% tin according to Wikipedia)

Re: All Other Medals

I think there is no point to fake those yet :). Unless it's got inscribed number and hanging in triangle suspension. No worry it's good, silver made, soviet, post wwII medal.
