Re: KGB and MVD jackets.

A fine picture of the KGB major-general Youri Ivanovitch Drozdov, resident in New-York (1975-79).

And one more element of proof toward the use of red piping for KGB generals :D

Re: KGB and MVD jackets.

AND...Finally! A picture (though not a photo) of someone wearing the PGU/SVR First Chief Directorate honor badge!!!(silver, uppermost badge) If the artist can be trusted (and I'm sure it is accurate) then I now know where my "crown jewels" of my collection should be worn on a uniform. At the top, of course!:yahoo

...I've only waited 14 years to be certain.;)

Wah-hoo!!

And yes Marc, more proof of what the KGB generals wore for portraits.:D

And Drozdov doesn't look at all like I pictured him. Then again, he looks like if he were not smiling, people might just confess anything to get him to look away.:)

Even though I fully agree on the red piping, I can't help but remember what someone said about using portraits as reference....

:laff Sorry, just kidding around.

He reminds me of the swedish comedian/radio-talker Gert Fylking.

Hum... I believe that there is a (veeeeeeeery) slight difference between a painting on the one hand, and a picture on the other hand (yes, I know, nowdays Photoshop can work wonders, but...)

Without going into further argument on the technique used, but I got the impression that the picture Kliment posted initially was a painting done by an artist. Am I wrong?

Patrik,

Not going into an argument at my end either, but Kliment's picture is definitely a photo, not a painting.

Re: KGB and MVD jackets.

It's seems a bit complicated. A photo exists (the one I have posted in my second post) and this photo inspired some artist (I have found that painting on the internet, but not posted). The first picture I have posted is a mix of the two (I realized this after posting), the face came obviously from the photo but some details of the tunic are clearly painted. But the original photo proves that the artist is correct in the details and colours. He have only "update" the portrait by the addition of one badge.
