Due to such high demand in Red Stars in more recent times I have only managed to purchase 2 Red Stars in the past 18 months, both in groups (1 long service and one combat - you'll be seeing them both soon enough). I still need another 8 Red Stars to fill my frame!

Is this the end of the parade, or still more to come? How many are there?

:thumbsup

More to come, 46 in total. 3 researched 6 digit awards and one in a long service group to an officer from 1956.

Red Stars have always been my favourite but I get distracted by not only other Soviet items but all the other pieces too.

So many beautiful and historical items out there even with years of experience it can be difficult knowing where to begin and end.

Hundreds and thousands more posts to come - stay tuned.

It's the simplicity and the class (and all that beautiful enamel) that makes them so darned impressive.

Re: Red Star.

Very nice! A parade of Red Stars :thumbsup

For the record, I'm going to take the following guesses on the late ones:

3,058,677 - long service, 1951-1952
3,134,218 - long service, 1953-1954
3,187,622 - long service, 30.04.1954
3,248,064 - long service, 05.11.1954, State Security
3,314,970 - long service, 05.11.1954
3,358,014 - long service, 26.10.1955
3,399,624 - long service, 30.12.1956
3,545,193 - catch-up, 1957-1958
3,548,523 - catch-up/wounds, 1957-1958
3,625,285 - wounds, 1968
3,652,895 - catch-up/wounds, 1974-1976
3,667,488 - 50th anniversary of the October Revolution, 28.10.1967
3,717,761 - 50th anniversary of the October Revolution, 28.10.1967

I'm also predicting a score of 21/26 (1 point for the reason, 1 point for the date). ...This is a fun game :D

It'll be exciting to see research, when you get around to it.

Cheers,
Alex

Re: Red Star.

Nice to have some positive and constructive feedback (or any at all).
Believe it or not I was thinking of Bill when I was photographing.

As for research it would be nice to do every bit of research possible on each piece but that costs money - a resource I don't have. Would be nice to see how close those suggestions are.

The Red Star really is my favourite piece. The style is perfect. I am still wanting a 5 or less digit one but I'll just have to wait.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness, Paul. I would like to return the favor; more eye candy.

Awaiting research on this one. . .
