So, in other words, I would tell a seller "I'd like an ORBL/OBoH group please," pay whatever price we agree to, and then come back, say, a month later when he's found a group. Am I understanding that right?

No, but you tell what you want to buy from the goods that is available in the store, this this and this - then you pay and leave. Don't expect a lot of sales talk or 'marketing'. This is off-topic though, so I guess we could leave it at this, send me a PM if you want further info.

The uniform is being sold as "KGB Major General" and when I first asked about it, the seller back then told me it belonged to a Jakovenko. The price in store (both online and offline) is 4000 EUR.

But the owner didn't seem interested in selling anything in his shop at all. (is it just me, or are a lot of antique dealers like that?
If you ever go to Sofia and want to experience the same, just walk in to antic shop in basement of building on the way from Nevsky cathedral to Dundukov avenue.

Seriously !!!

Re: Ebay jokes

Guys,

That is just the Easter European version of customer care and service
It is common everywhere in all the former socialist republics.

Re: Ebay jokes

Fortunately the Eastern European sellers who deal on ebay -at least in my personal experience- are quite different. Do you guys have experienced the same anytime?

Re: Ebay jokes

I thought there was something fishy about this uniform.
As for the cap, it looks like it could be real? But I thought they did not exist?

And yeah, I've also noticed that eastern sellers are different, a couple I used to buy from regularly offered better customer service than many sellers in North America and England I'd purchased things from.

But I guess thats not staying on topic.

Depends on how you define "real". The jacket as well as the cap is "real" - you can touch them. The set is however, to the best of my knowledge, not authentic but made for collectors. I got a colonel-general set myself.

Re: Ebay jokes

I would rather think of my colonel-general KGB uniform like Patrick's as a made-for-display uniform because then I don't mind punching the necessary holes to display a chest full of awards befitting a KGB general. Plus, whether the uniform is real or not is secondary to the fact that it looks really good with all the medals and other awards on it.

(I wouldn't try to sell it to someone for a ridiculous amount like the above. In fact, I don't think I would even try to sell it.)

Re: Ebay jokes

Initially I thought this was a bad koke. Like, get your precedence in order!
But now I wonder if it's not chronologically correct and maybe an anomoly.
I doubt it, though; too many years in between to not know the rules.

Re: Ebay jokes

Not an officially approved precedence but once a vet and out of service, who would dare give you a hard time? Here is a set I have which shows similar and there is no question it is a legit array because I have a picture of the old Starshina wearing the whole wad.
