This unidentified veteran tops them all thus far - three gold, five red and two blue wound stripes.

Interesting! Never seen blue stripes before. In my regulations book they only show red and yellow ones. Which is the criteria for blue stripes?

From what I've been able to discern, the blue wound stripes denote concussions received in combat. It is unclear whether the blue stripes are officially sanctioned although veterans are known to wear them. See the below image for another case in point.

Amazing !

I also find it interesting that the veteran in the first photo wears the Nevsky, Patriotic War, and Red Star Orders and yet, based on the way the photo looks to me, it does not appear that he wears any "Defense" or "Capture" medals. It is powerful evidence that a "simple" medal bar without such medals on it really gives no indication of what that veteran may have experienced.

Maybe he had them, but he chose not to wear them for whatever reason he may have had.

The campaign medals does not cover all the battlegrounds on the east european front... somewhat unfair :)

Gents,

Records are meant to be broken and so it goes with wound stripes. If this vet is legitimate (he does tend towards being a "Badgefinder"), I count 13 wound stripes on his right sleeve - nine gold and four red.
